Downside To Micro Guides?

Featured Replies

I was just wondering if there is a downside to micro guides. I'm planning on picking up two veritas micros this spring, one for flipping and another one I haven't decided what technique I'm going to focus on with it but I get a good deal so i'm buying 2.

Is there any technique you would not use micro guides for?

If you use a leader I'd stay away from micros. However lots of people use them with a leader.

In addition to a potential issue with the knot for a leader, the micros will probably ice-up faster than regular guides if you fish in sub-freezing temps.

Line threading and eyesight for older people

Most casting rods with micros use a size 4 which will pass a well tied Albright joining 65# braid and 17# fluoro. Plus, leadrers aren't always necessary. Icing and floating debris are the other 2 factors in employing micro guides. FWIW I use them almost exclusively on the bass rods I build for my personal use.

Fishing in slop with braid/frog some of the crud can sometimes clog the tip guide
