Smith Mountain Lake And Sunken Tires

Featured Replies

I've heard that tires were sunk to create a fishing habitat at Smith mountain lake many years ago.Could anyone confirm this and also tell me where this would be located?

they do this at just about every trollling motor only lake we have in pennsylvania also. Its been my experience that each pile seems to only have one or two bass on it.

thats a huge lake to be going around just searching for tires. i can confirm ive heard one story of a guy sinking tires a few years ago off a point in a cove of the roanoke river arm, but thats about it. i would focus more on docks, rocky points, humps, and underwater tree stumps and fallen trees...

Excellent advice! Water temps are currently mostly in the mid-40's, although we have had some warmer air temps the past couple of days, so this is probably trending upwards now.

I was in Danville yesterday, and the Redbuds are already blooming! Won't be long now!

And speaking of the Roanoke River arm...Heaven only knows what you might find submerged in there!! :) Tires would be the LEAST of the sunken debris I'd be worried about :)

i hear there are barns, houses, silos and all kinds of stuff that got flooded when they made the lake...

I havn't had the chance to go with someone who has the latest and greatest sonar to find out how much truth there is to all the stories, I hear there is also a church at the bottom and all kinds of construction equiptment.
