Which Of These Rods

Featured Replies

I've narrowed my selection for new spinning rod to three rods. I want to use then for finesse/drop shot/shakey head. My three choices are

Powell diesel-6'10" medium action- xfast tip $69.99

Shimno crucial- 7'2" medium light- fast tip $90- very good deal down 30% then $25 off that sale price.

Fenwick elite tech 6'9" medium xfast $87

If there are any other rods I maybe consider but I like these three. Which is the best deal in this list

In your opinion? Thanks, Jordan

Three excellent choices for under $100

I don't own the Fenwick but it's one good looking rod.

I've been sold on the Fenwick Elite Tech smallmouth rods since I got my first one direct from Fenwick. The Powell to me is a gamble with zero warranty and the Crucial is a good rod and has a lifetime warranty the same as the Fenwick. I will say to go with the Fenwick simply because it is a more veratile rod, it is very sensitive, light and great for finesse like you want but it is also stout enough that you could use it for tubes and soft jerkbaits. I don't own the Crucial, but the new ones are really nice and feel good too but I really love how the Fenwick feels in hand, I never fished with a more comfotable rod, I don't think you could go wrong with either of them but I prefer the Fenwick and after fishing the spinning rod I got a casting model and since the casting model purchase I now want at least 2 more if not 3, I'm sold on these rods.

Is it the new crucial? If so then I would probably go with that but the Fenwick is also a very nice rod.

I have seen all 3 and I would go Fenwick. But it is apple and oranges. But I like the Fenwick.

I own an older model Crucial (the one with the full cork grip) and one of the Fenwick smallmouth rods. They're both nice and both come with the lifetime warranty. If I were to chose one, I'd go with the Fenwick. I have no experience with the newer Crucial or the Powell diesel rods. Good luck with your decision

Before you decide, take a look at the Denali Jadewood series. They have a 7' MH Shakey Head and a 6'6" Med. Finesse. I don't think you'll find a nicer rod for under $100.

If you go with the Smallmouth rod, check here

Price is $80.89 with free shipping. Same guy (Red's Gear) that sells them on Amazon.

thanks alot, I've pretty much decided to go with that rod too so you just saved me

A good bit of money thanks.

Yes. I'm certainly no expert but I believe the x-fast is the preferred tip for drop shotting. That's what my Loomis drop shot rod has.

I think the reason behind it is if the rod is bending at the thinnest part of the rod it has the least resistance so an investigating fish does not feel the rod before you feel the fish.
