Featured Replies

im in the market for a new spinning rod and ive been looking and theres so many choices micro guides, regular guides whole 9 yards thats why i came here for help im looking for a spinning rod between 100-160 dollars more looking for a cork split grip then that eva maybe the rage micro guides isnt a big factor just a 6'6 mh rod any tips or ones people have in that price range that are pretty sensitive all input would be much appreciated cause im about to pull out my hair looking

I own a Powell Max 683 MEF and it is a high quality rod. I got one when TW was closing them out for $100. If you can find a Powell that meets your requirements, then that would be a good option. I also noticed that the Kistler Magnesium TS Spin 6'9" MH Finesse Special is on sale for $140 at TW. That would also make a nice rod.

If you go with a St Croix, get a M powered rod. There MH spinning rods are broom sticks. The 6'8" M/XF rods they offer reguardless of price range (mojo, rage, avid..) are great all purpose spinnng rods.

If you look on Amazon you can find the Fenwick Smallmouth Elite Tech spinning rods for a little over $80, it is a fantastic rod that is a great deal even at full retail. The 6'9" M-XF would work as it has an extensive range in lure weight from 1/8oz to 3/4oz, it handles small baits as if it was made for it but I have thrown 6" Slug-o baits with it and it has a ton of power, in fact those 6" baits weren't any problem to throw on it, like sometimes to use a bigger bait on an underpowered rod you need to lob cast the bait to keep the rod from breaking, well not so with this rod. I believe it will give the best of both worlds as a rod that can fish finesse techinques with small jigs and tubes to throwing 3/8oz spinnerbaits and heavier texas rigs. Check it out.

This is another great option and at that price you could buy two of them and still be in your price range!
