Last week I went jigging for lake trout, a fish I've never tried before. My fishing buddy recommended something called "The Binsky". I had never heard of it but I was impressed by the action and versatility of it. We didn't catch a thing but I liked the action of the lure.

Today I thought I'd go for trout on the local lake using the Binsky but hooked into 4 nice bass in about 30 minutes. It is apparently what they call a blade bait (I have a hard time keeping up with the terms these days) but can be rigged as a jig or crankbait.

Abybody else use this thing or heard of it?

Blade baits are very good in cold water, especially up here in the north. They are kind of a secret tool for cold water, most arent familiar with them... The most popular method is jig/rip them in fairly deep water (10+ ft) rather than a cast and retrieve. They are very effective in deep water due to their fast sink rate, heavy weight, and nice action.

It was mentioned last year in a post. I have heard of them,but I haven't ordered any yet. They look well build compared to a lot of blade baits on the market right now. Thanks for mentioning these,been wanting to order some awhile now but i forgot about them....lol

Exactly the same thing! They are fairly hard to come by however, most get them done custom. They are pretty simple, just a metal punchout with lead added.

The Silver Buddy type blade baits are a staple in my arsenal year round. However I have my best luck with them in the late fall of year around dams in rivers. Netcraft has their own version of this simple bait at a reasonable price.

I like blade baits because they don't take up a lot of room in the box, they cast well, and they catch fish. I mostly use them on schoolies, and for vertical jigging. I have some older *** Blades, but I started using one called a Cicada about 3 years ago, and it seems to do a little better than the *** Blades when I let it fall. They make a really tiny one that is great on trout and panfish on an ultralight. I use any color as long as it is silver/blue or silver/red.

I usually dont care for their in house baits, but XPS version is the shizzle. Probably all in my head but the holographic scale patterns look great and give it a realistic baitfish "flash".

Binsky rules -I catch many fish in the cold water months . Probably 200 fish a year on them from NOV through Jan

One of my favorite cold-water baits. Do-It makes a mold so you can roll your own if you're so inclined.

I fish a different blade, based on the old Worden's lure. They vibrate more than any other I've ever fished. I've caught fish ten to one beside a good friend fishing a Silver buddy side by side.
