This would probably be my first choice although I've never fished that particular model. I always prefer to buy the more expensive rod on sale than pay full price for a similarly priced rod. I always feel like I am getting a better bang for my buck. I've heard it said that you get what you pay for.

Or you could try one of the Berkley rods at or below that price. House brand rods are another possible way to go. You often get a rod that would be priced higher if it had the manufacturer's name on it.

EdiT: There was a post recently on a new Diawa model (Jupiter) being sold at Wal-Mart. It got a rave review from at least one guy who said he was going to sell his more expensive Daiwa rods such as his Zillions, and buy a few more of these. Doubt I would go that far. BTW, my understanding is that this model is made just for Wal-Mart, and you won't find it mentioned elsewhere. Not even on Daiwa's website. Same thing for other house brands.

I have the same reel on a Lightning rod shock for my pond hopping rod, seems well balanced and light for a combo I got less than $80 in to.

My two oldest boys (9 & 12) have Sonora 2500s on 6' Med. Abu Garcia Conolon Premiers. They're a bit heavier than I'd like, and the orange reel is rather ugly against the red reel seat and burgundy/gold blank, but the sensitivity is decent for the price and they're easily replaceable if something happens.

I paid $15 each for the reels and about $25 each for the rods, iirc, out of the clearance bin of the local Walmart when they were remodeling. :)

Maybe check out a shimano sellus rod?
