Flushing The Spool Bearings

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I really need to flush my spool bearings because there is way to much grease in them and they don't spin well at all. So my question is how do I flush them, and what do I need? Thanks for all your help!

Acetone is the best. It cuts the old lube and leaves no residue. Brake or carb cleaner are largely acetone and you may have them laying around already. The bearings need to come out of the reel. soak them in a small jar swishing them periodically. change the solvent in 5-10 minute intervals until it stays perfectly clear. Lay the bearings on a paper towel to dry. If clean the bearings should spin on the end os a pencil for several seconds fairly quietly. Lube with 1 drop of light oil and reinstall. If you have a bearing on the spool shaft, strip the line and either soak the spool or blast it with a spray solvent until clean and free.

Thank you so much. That was the perfect answer I was looking for! I'm going to do this tomorrow.
