So Im at the quarry lake today. Water temp is around 68 and the water is super clear. I was crushing bass all day in the 2-3 pound range on all sorts of baits. All along the bank theres tons of cover. Lots of brush and laydowns, fallen trees and the sort. Its kind of tough because you have to get through brush to get to the bank and its impossible to be stealthy. Everywhere i went i kept noticing big females, like 6-8 pounds with a small male with them. They were everywhere. They did not bite ANYTHING! I was putting lures right in front of their face and hey just stared at it. They werent really spooked, i could see them staring at me and they didnt run off. I guess theyre getting ready to spawn. Any tips for catching these impossible to catch fish? I was putting texas and wacky rigged worms in all colors in their face, jigs of all shapes and sizes and colors, jerkbaits, crankbaits, in line spinners, spinnerbaits, ever little crappie jigs. Nothing.

I thought that same thing to myself. Thats a great way to describe how they were acting. It looked like they just got nasty and are recouping. lol

Were these Bass cruising around or setting near a bed? Sometimes when they are in cruise mode they are not interested in feeding or worried about killing an egg predator. If they are near a bed try dropping your bait in the middle of the bed and let it set for awhile. Don't get too close to where they can see you.

They were just sitting in some branches and logs that were in the water on the bank. they were in about 8 inches of water, just sitting there. They knew i was there but didnt move. Every now and again the male would poke at the female and they would swim off a few feet then come right back to the same spot and sit there. No real reaction to me or my lures. I had plastic worms literally hitting them and landing on their heads and they didnt flinch.

Man when I first started bass fishing, the story you are saying reminds me of the time at a local reservoir and the same thing happend. Droped off to some secondary points and it was the opposite reaction.

They saw you and got scared. Maybe next time take a shower, get a hair cut, and put on your sunday best so you don't freak them out.
It's tuff in clear shallow water. Lizards are a good bed bait.

Remember, if you can see the bass the bass can also see you - and if a bass sees you the chance of catching him or her goes way down. You were catching the males, they were probably hyped up and ready to spawn but the females - older probably and more experienced - may have seen you or your boat. Try backing off, cast back to them.

Yea i was trying to do that but the way the bank is its lined with brush and trees so ya gotta get through that to make a cast. This was just one spot on the lake so im going to try some different spots. Rumor has it a 10lb monster lives in that lake, and im gonna get her!
