I'm don't have hands on experirnce with the MG but I have 3 Tornament Pro's. I use mine with jigs, soft plastics such as Senkos, worms and flukes, I also throw small swimbaits such as the Lake Fork Magic Shad. I have mine spooled with mono and braid.

thank you. all i use is lews but i know the mg is more or less a "cranking" reel as obvious with the longer handle and deeper spool. i know i can use it for other purposes but just wondering who has and how it performed.

Good reel.

I have two MG models. 5.4 to 1 for my light cranking rod, #10 YoZuri and the 7.1 to 1 with #50 braid on my frog rod.

I have two MG's. One in 7.1 and one in 5.4. The 5.4 is, obviously, on my 7'5" Powell Endurance glass/composite deep cranking rod. The 7.1 is on my Powell 7'3" H flipping rod. I think the deep spool on the 7.1 is the best feature because I can old more heavy line (20# Seaguar Fluoro), so I can make longer casts/pitches on heavier line. I have fallen in love with the Tournament series, however. That thing casts a friggin' mile!
