Im fishing canals more and more and i feel im not confident fishing my usual baits. What do you south Florida guys fish with in the canals?

this time of year, big worms for me. i wil throw flukes, swimbaits etc. but i spend a little more time with the big worm bite on the ledges.

Horny toads or any type of soft frog. With all the rain we have been lately and all the rain thats coming in may and June they will do great in the urdan canals. Cast them parallel to the bank about 3 feet or less, you get some strikes.

Brush hogs, flukes, and ultra vibe worms. Watermelon, watermelon with red flake, pumpkin colors. Concentrate on the shoreline and concentrated patches of grass, pads, and muck. Top water frogs work in early morning and evening along with spring time.

Big brush hogs in watermelon are my canal killers. Throw em to the shore line and slow roll em back... WHACK!

Zoom lizards:watermelon, watermelon red. Bass Pro horney toads:black, watermelon. Zoom Brush Hogs:watermelon. Zara Spook. Chug Bugs. Zoom Ultra Vibe Worms:just about any color. Culprit worms:red shad, orange and black.

Alot of south Florida guys swim worms along the edges and I have done that as well with good results.

FROGS...... I live and die by the frog. I have no issues throwing a frog all day long in south Florida. I don't care if it's a blue bird sky or pouring down rain. Big bass can't resist the sound of the paddle legs on a buzz frog. Last saturday I fished a major canal out on the alley. I used a frog from kin to can't (for you urban folks, thats kin see the sun and can't see the sun). Hung one of my biggest bass ever for a brief moment. But for the best bass go with a frog...... a loud frog!

I second capt shane. They love frogs this time of year thats for sure. Also for a couple different reasons, you can cover a lot more water in less time with a buzz frog, and second, theres nothing like that topwater bite! Parallel casts are great, and keep an eye on the other bank and look for differences in cover. Small pockets, pads, grass clumps, those are all ingredients to a good day! Good luck!

thanks for the suggestions. i dont fish frogs much anymore , but i do like to burn a weightless lizard on the surface. ill give it a shot.

Another vote for frogs, and Gambler EZ's. The big worms are also ready when I come across the right spots, and when I have the patience.

I'm with Bocabasser in the summer when things slow down out there I used to go to the 12 and 13 inch worms, it ruled out the dinks and and produced monster sacks.
