Hey all!
Just got home from a trip to rancho seco here by Sacramento. Kind of a little confused by the pattern of the fish. I ended up catching 3 between 11 to 1, which is small number compared to the amount I saw.
in total I saw perhaps 30 fish, all cruising along the bank. Ranging from 1 pound to about 3. They didn't seem spooked or anything.
Problem is I couldnt get any of them to bite. i tried everything from poppers, cranks, lipless cranks to spinners and worms. The three I did catch were on a senko.
once I did realize they were always close, my first cast would always be away from the water a little as to not scare them, and also spent many more casts along the bank where I would see the fish.
Any reason they not hitting atm?? Bites I did have were so subtle, only reason I knew to set the hook was the line moving after the fish continued on after picking the bait up.
weather was about 87, 8 mph north with (wind has been cosntant for the past week.)
Thanks for any advice!

Man, you should have seen / fished that place between 2000 and 2003
You know I caught the Rancho Seco lake record on 4/10/03 right ?
18.4 lbs, 29.5" length x 24" girth

Oh but hey, you got 3 between 11 and 1 ? 11 lbs ? That would be a noteworthy catch there nowadays ?
If you want those 1 to 3 lb'ers, live line crawlers to them on a micro light. Otherwise, for big fish from that place, live bait always sucked for me. So I ended up never using it there. Soft plastics for sight fishing. Swimbaits for feeding fish.
Peace,
Fish
