Yesterday my friend Facebook me about a pond on Southlake Blvd beside Napa Auto Parts. He said that a guy landed a 10 pound BASS! So I marked the location on Google maps then asked my dad to drive me there, but he was unsure that it was public. The pond was behind some businesses. So you had to park at one of the buildings to access the pond, but they don't really care. So we parked at some real estate place.
Once I got there I saw geese poop everywhere...yuck! But that's the only horrible thing about this pond. You can almost walk around the pond. Also, there was some lay-downs to fish and you can skip chatterbaits under trees that hang over the water! To left of that peninsula, the water is very deep..i think it holds catfish :) I saw some bass eating dragonflies so threw a strike king rage tail toad. The first cast I got a 17 inch bass. 30 minutes with no luck so I changed to a fluke. I cast it out there about 10 times. While I was twitching it back, out of nowhere a bass smashed it about 3 feet away from me. It scared the crap out of me then I started to scream like a girl lol :) The bass was about 18 inches. Unfortunately, I have only 1 hour to fish :/ So i left.

Water Temp: 80
Air Temp: 84
Lure: Rage Tail Toad and Fluke
Time of day: Evening

Yep. Over fished pond. Don't go there anymore.

See you Monday if I can swing it.

Around 4 or 4:30.

Park where I suggested and walk on over.

I will probably be the only one there. At least I hope so!!!

Racer, there are many ponds in the Midlothian and Bon Air areas.

Please get the ADC Mapbook of Greater Richmond and Chestefield County. You can see most of the ponds to fish in the areas.

Some suggestions:
The big pond behind the Martin's Grocery Store off Huguenot Road in Bon Air.
Walton Park pond.
The pond behind Bethany Place Baptist Church on Providence Road. Lots of grass and pads so go for topwaters and weedless plastics.
Swift Creek Reservior off Genito Road.
I have never tried the big pond at Centerpointe Office Park. Give it a try and let us know how you do.
Pond off Lucks Lane as you head towards St. Mary's Hospital. It will be on your left.
The pond off Walton Road near Midlo Turnpike. I read where some guys have caught some big ones out of that pond.
Lake Walton by St. Michael's School in Bon Air.
Along Hobby Hill Road in Bon Air there is a pond. Only caught bream but I am sure there are some nice bass in this pond.
Pony Pasture area on the Historic James River. Wear a PFD and take a friend along as the river is very unforgiving. Walk out into the rocks about a quarter mile up river from where the kids play and sunbathe on the rocks. Bass, bream, bluegills and big catfish rule the area, both small and largemouth bass.
Swift Creek in the Pocahontas State Park. Rent a skiff and fish the Swift Creek Lake. You can also fish along the shore and adjacent to the bridge.
Cross the James and go to Innsbrook. Fish both Lake Rooty across Nuckols Road and the concrete ponds by the big office buildings.
The Boulders Office Complex. Look at a map for the big pond at the Boulders.
Southlake Lake that was discussed in this thread. You can still catch bass and bream in the lake but it has a lot of pressure. Just walk around it. Park across from the NAPA store.
Powhatan Lakes can be fun if you have a raft or other watercraft. You can also fish off the bank.
The three big ponds in Powhatan County. Look them up on Google in Powhatan. They are to the right of Route 60 a few miles after you pass Route 522. It is a ways to travel but they are nice places to fish. I can get to them but I can't tell you how to get to them.
The ponds behind the Sheraton Hotel on Midlo Turnpike. Go to the office buildings and fish the ponds. There are no fishing signs but I have never been bothered.
You can try your luck at the Arboretum ponds off Midlo Turnpike but I have been chased off by security. But you can always give them a shot if you don't mind being asked to leave or getting a ticket.

Be careful. Take along a needled nose pliers and your fishing license. Watch out for snakes although the water moccasions are not suppossed to be north of the Appomattox River area. But some have come up towards Richmond.

Get the ADC Mapbook and look for all of the blue ponds and lakes all over the place.

Good luck.

Sam,

Thanks for listing these places to fish around Richmond.  I've been to southlake a few times this year and had luck.  Hopefully gonna try a few other places this weekend.

Also, does anyone recommend any other places to go?  I'm new to the fishing scene in Richmond, so I could use all the help I can get.

Thanks!

Ole, welcome to Richmond.

There are really not that many places to fish in Midlothian other than those in the earlier post.

You may find a new apartment complex or development that has a pond and give it a shot.

Go to Tackle Express on Midlothian Turnpike and pick up a copy of the 2014 Freshwater Fishing in Virginia publication from Game and Inland Fisheries. It lists places to fish in the greater Richmond geographical area.

There are some good places in Hanover and Henrico counties.

Good luck.

Sam,

Thanks, I'll be sure to grab one soon.  Also, I went to a place by Enclave Apartments on N. Woolridge Road on Saturday where I caught one and missed another.  I'll be sure to look out for ponds in the new developments.

Thanks again!
