  1. Hi Everyone! I moved to Phoenix a few months ago and I’m looking for a few places to fish now that I’ve settled in. I wanted to know if anyone could recommend a few places. I generally target largemouth and smallmouth bass, but I’m open to other species. Someone I met recommended Arrowhead Lakes, but after learning it’s for neighborhood members only I passed on it. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
  2. Thanks for the feedback, fellas. I'm going to look into the Tatulas as a few of you seem to have positive opinions about them. I'll let you all know what I decide to go with.
  3. Hello! I'm thinking about getting a new reel at the $100 price point so I wanted to get some suggestions. A friend recommended the reels below, so I wanted to know if anyone has any experience with them or if they would suggest and others at the some price point or slightly (+$20) higher. Lews Speed Spool LFS Abu Garcia Orra SX Let me know your thoughts. Thank!
  4. What's up River City? I was wondering if anyone has ever caught anything out at Three Lakes Park? I've been there twice in the last 10 days and got skunked both times on Lake #1. Once at sunrise and once in the evening. Fished top water and a squarbill crankbait at sunrise and senko's, spinnerbaits, and a jig in the evening. In the morning I saw bass hitting at the surface but I still came up empty. In the evening I didn't even get a nibble. Lol Anyone ever had luck there?
  5. That's helpful. If Lake Rooty is that bad, I won't wast my time. I've never heard of East Shore so maybe I'll check it out this weekend. I'm still new to the West End. (been on this side for about 6 months now) so I'm still learning. I haven't been wading in over a year so South Anna sounds fun. I just searched in google though, where exactly is that? Does it have another name?
  6. Quanjig, I was just thinking for fun or maybe having everyone throw in some baits and the winner takes it. No money exchange though. Sam, Thanks for the information! I'll look deeper into it and follow up in the future! Have a great day. I was thinking about fishing at Lake Rooty this weekend can you still fish it? I'm looking for more places closer to me to fish out in the west end. I seem to always end up on the Southside.
  7. Hey Everyone, I saw something on youtube and had an idea/inquiry. What would be the possibility of having a bass fishing tournament in the Richmond Area (Henrico/Hanover/Chesterfield/other Counties) for bank fishing. Has anything like this ever happened in this area? Is there a lake/pond large enough to do it at? Would something like this have to be organized with registered Bass Club? I'm don't know what it would take to make it happen but I believe it could be a something cool for our area. If you know anything or could possibly be interested please let me know. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!!
  8. Fry Dog, thanks for the info about the video. I just checked it out and I definitely need to switch to palming the reel like this with my finger under the line. I watched a video and just thought, that looks much more comfortable/controlled compared to what I'm doing. I'll be using this technique from now on!
  9. I've never heard of palming the reel. I usually hold my hand lower with my index finger around the trigger grip. I'll definitely try to be aware of this. Thanks!
  10. This is exactly what I feel. I definitely think my left forearm is weaker and prevents me from having control/feel and limits my concentration. I'm considering not taking my spinning rod with me during a couple trips to force me to practice until I feel better with it. Thanks Adam!
  11. Hear me out guys, I've been fishing spinning reels retrieving left handed since I was introduced to fishing. Last year, I purchased my first baitcaster (BPS Megacast Combo) but they only came in right hand retrieve. I figured it would not be too bad as I was just learning w/ a baitcaster and I was trying to save money. Not so! Since, I've had it I haven't caught a single fish but have missed tons. But, I can tie the same lure on my spinning combos and catch fish w/ no problem. For some reason, holding the rod with my left (baitcaster) I can't feel the bites/strikes as I do holding it with my right (spinning). Any advice on how to correct this? If not I'll have to buy a new left handed baitcast reel for the rod. For the Record: I'm somewhat ambidextrous. I write, eat, and box lefty. I cast, throw a football/baseball, shoot a basketball, kick a ball, and reach for things righty.
  12. Appreciate the advice guys. If its there when he goes back, I'll pick it up.
  13. My buddy works at Estes Express shipping and saw it in their warehouse. When trucks don't make it to their location the merchandise cant be sold in stores because its considered damaged, so they sell it discounted from their warehouse. brand new, still in box.
  14. I ran across a new Orra SX for $50 and wanted to know if it was worth it. (Lefty) I bought my first casting combo last year at (BPS Megacast Combo) but it only came in right hand retrieve. I thought I would get used to it but I just cant seem to adjust comfortably to reeling right handed. I figured if I can get a nicer reel at a lower price I would take advantage of it and just pair it with the BPS Rod for now. Has anyone ever used this reel and what are their thoughts on it? Thanks,
  15. I just grabbed a 6' Lightning Shock Spinning Rod this weekend and paired it with my Shimano Sedona 2500 FD. Hopefully, I can test it out this week. Read tons of reviews and it seems to be great for the price. They're $50 and BPS and $40 at Wal-Mart. I grabbed one from Wal-Mart and got the 2 year insurance for $2. Spent abt $44 after taxes. I say grab one as they never seem to hang around Wal-Mart long where I'm at.
  16. I would go 6'6" or 6' spinning rod. I often fish around brush and it really helps to have a shorter rod for accuracy. Not to mention I'm not that tall so its much more comfortable and I feel like I have more control.
  17. Guys, This is really helpful. I'm thinking about spooling my Shimano Sedona 2500FD with braid after pairing it with a Lightning Shock Rod. My reservation is that I don't really fish heavy cover so I don't want it to be overkill. Advice on using it but not fishing heavy cover regularly? A buddy of mine swears by it and we generally fish the same areas.
  18. Hey Guys, Thanks for the info. So far, this is what has caught my eye that is in my price range. 7' M Berkley Lightning Rod Shock 6'6" or 7' M Ugly Stick GX2 6'6" or 7 M Bass Pro Graphite Series I may try to head up to Bass Pro, Dicks, & Green Top this weekend with my reel to feel my way through it. Thanks!
  19. Hello Everyone, A friend of mine bought me Shimano Sedona 2500 FD a few weeks back. I'm hoping to pair it with a good rod without breaking the bank as I only anticipate spending around 40-60 bucks. I'm only able to fish from the banks, so I don't want to over do it, since my access to waters is limited. My target species is Bass but if other fish take the bait I'm cool with it. I'm still new to bass fishing and I keep hearing about Rods and Reels being balanced, but I really don't know what that means. Can someone explain and can I achieve this with 40-60 bucks? Does anyone have any recommendations on getting a good rod to pair with my reel? Thanks Guys!
  20. Sam, Thanks, I'll be sure to grab one soon. Also, I went to a place by Enclave Apartments on N. Woolridge Road on Saturday where I caught one and missed another. I'll be sure to look out for ponds in the new developments. Thanks again!
  21. Afternoon everyone, I've found some older posts from 3-4 years ago regarding ponds and lakes to fish in the Richmond area. I've had luck at the pond on Southlake. I also went to the ponds behind the Sheraton on Midlothian, but I did not fish because they're posted. I was wondering if anyone has any other leads about places to go in the Richmond, Area. A buddy and I are looking for a new place to try this coming Saturday morning. We really appreciate any places anyone would suggest. Thanks!
  22. Sam, Thanks for listing these places to fish around Richmond. I've been to southlake a few times this year and had luck. Hopefully gonna try a few other places this weekend. Also, does anyone recommend any other places to go? I'm new to the fishing scene in Richmond, so I could use all the help I can get. Thanks!
  23. A friend and I fished the other end of Belle Isle a few weeks back did OK. We found luck with a Silver Jointed Rapala and White 3 inch grubs.
  24. Hey Everyone, I'm headed to Maryland for the weekend and was curious about any areas to fish in Charles or Prince Georges County. I lived in Maryland until I was 18 so I know my around fairly well but I had no interest in fishing as a teen. I'll be between the Clinton, Accokeek, Brandywine, and Waldorf areas while there. I'm open to riding out to LaPlata as well. I was hoping I could get a few hours of fishing in Saturday morning. If anyone knows of some lakes/ponds to fish in these areas I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
