Going fishing for spotted bass for the first time in a small central Kansas stream this weekend. Tips?
Also using my waders for the first time so wish me luck!

Spots love shakeyheads and finesse worms in the streams I've fished for them. Also with as hot as it has been I wouldn't worry about wearing waders, some old shorts and tennis shoes is the best way to go when the water is warm like it is now. You'll be sweating buckets right now in waders.
Is it spring yet??

I agree with soft plastics, jigs, spinnerbaits, and topwater walking baits.

Unless, of course, the stream has leeches in it.

There are no magic lures and the fish don't care how much you paid for your gear.

If they aren't bad just pack some table salt to put on them if a couple stick to you, they'll drop right of when that salt hits them. If they are bad, a pair of old tennis shoes and some jeans with the bottom zip tied on the top of the shoes will keep them out and still allow you to get wet and keep cool :)

I have caught spotted bass on a plain nightcrawler tossed into the stream. I use to fish a stream while standing on a big rock with an overhanging tree and they would shoot out from under the rock.
Bass - Largemouth - 11-12 pounds, Smallmouth - 2 pounds, Rock - 1/2 pound, Spotted- 1/4 lb
Catfish - channel - 10-11 pounds, Bullhead - 4-5 pounds, Flathead - 2-3 pounds
Carp - Common - around 30-35 pounds
Trout - Rainbow - 6 pounds, Brown - 2 pounds, Dolly Varden - 3.5 pounds, Brook - 1/4 pound

A buddy and I caught around 30 fish in a "creek" that had more dry spots than pools. Only used Mepps Spinners. (my buddy caught more than me and had the big fish of the day)

We caught Spotted Bass, Largemouth Bass, Channel Cat, Spotted Gar , Green Sunfish, Bluegill, Green Sunfish/Bluegill Hybrid.......saw, but didn't catch Long Ear Sunfish

Nature is amazing.
Kansas is amazing.

Mine saying where this stream is and if it's public or private? I love that kind of fishing.
Is it spring yet??
