Im actually proficient in using baitcasters with lures 3/8 and heavier, 1/4oz and lighter would be a learning experiance 

 

Heres one more reel i found at a good price. The okuma komodo 6.5 oz's, $138. Anyone have experiance with these?

 

I know the perfect reel would be a curado 51e, just cant find one....

Congratulations.  Great choice.  However, as already stated, be sure to put it on a rod suited for less than 1/4 oz. lures.  My 51E is mounted on a Fenwick Smallmouth 6'10" Medium Fast rated for 1/8-5/8 oz. lures.  There is a thread on here somewhere with measured actual spinnerbait weights.  Might have been Goose52 that posted them.  Anyway...I can throw a 3/16 oz. spinnerbait a goodly ways with this combo.  The spinnerbait's actual weight is probably around 1/4 oz.

Have you considered a Mettle from Academy Sports? Normal price is 49.99, but they go on sale for 29.99 a couple times a year.

But last year (2011) Black Friday, they were $24.99. I bought 10. Great warranty. Casts a long distance. I caught bass up to 10 lbs. with no problems. If one goes bad, they'll take it back and give you a new one!

I got the curado. I have a 6'6 medium Berkeley lightening laying around that I'll use till I find a deal on a nice medium light/medium action rod. Thanks for all the help fellas.

There is ZERO reason to upgrade the bearings in a new Curado.  Flush them with Acetone, and add a drop of Bantam Oil that came with the reel.  Otherwize, it's waste of money.  You don't get any valuable return your investment. 

 

If you want to do something worthwhile to your reel, get a Carbontex drag from Smooth Drags for about $10.  That's an improvement that is worth it's weight in gold.

solid advice, this would be what I would do to my customers reels, unless the bearings have been contaminated with salt water or are bad for some other reason, But Shimano bearings will run as good as any ABEC5 bearing if they are lubed the same. The carbontex drag is hands down an improvement, on any reel that doesn't use them.

Thanks for the advice guys. Ill take a look at the bearings when the reel comes in thursday.
