I just bought a Wright Mcgill/Skeete Reese Casting reel and I'm looking to pair it up to a Wright Mcgill/Skeete Reese S-Glass 6'8" crankin rod. They're selling for $90 & I wanted to get some opinions from anyone who owns one of these rods/reels or even the whole combo. I really like the looks & design of the rod & I've never owned a glass rod before, everything up until now has been graphite. I would really appreciate any input ~ Christian

I haven't fished one but from just handling they seem too whippy. Not all glass or glass composite rods are like that.

X2 !! You need some flex for cranks but they do have a little too much for my liking. I prefer graphite cranking rods, they are a little faster than most glass rods but they have more feel and are much lighter. I wanted to go with a glass cranking rod but I just don't like the weight and you don't realize how heavy they are until you use one for a whole day like I did and I'm so glad I got the chance to fish with one or I might have purchased a glass rod. If you find the price attractive then I suggest you look at the Denali Jadewood series or the Shimano Clarus series, both are the same price but much better rods.

I have the 7' and the 7'10" versions. Yes, they are whippy. I like them for fishing in current, the fish stay hooked when they jump next to the boat out of the current and unload the rod. I fish them with braid, I don't think I'd like them with mono. With the braid I can get a good hook set even at long range with the whippy rod, the extra depth is a bonus. It's the formula I came up with for the conditions I fish through trial and error. I never tried the 6' 8" rod so I can't comment on it specifically. I don't much care for the jig and worm rods but that's just me. Love the crankbait rods.

I have the 7' and love it. It is whippy but the fish seem to stay glued on. I don't know what a good crank rod should feel like, but this seems to work good for me. It is a little porky at 6.35 ozs.

Really the reason I want the S-Glass rod was because you need the extra fast rod tip so that the rod has a chance to load up and set those trebel hooks w/o ripping the lure out of the fishes mouth, plus I feel like it would be a lot more forgiving when the fish jumps with just one trebel hook keeping it on. I fish my crankbaits on 10lb braid w/a ball bearing swivel to a 12 lb 100% flouro leader.

I have a buddy who has one and really likes it but like most it is a little to whippy for my taste. I bought on of st croix's mojo glass cranking rods and like it better still plenty of give but not so whippy
