I live in norther KY so not to many big bass 5 to 6 lbs tops. what is the diff between spinning and baitcaster?? i use a baitcaster for flipping. but i have a MH gloomis spinning with 15lbs braid and i can do more with the spinning. i would just like to have some input on what other people think.

That is kind of a strange question from someone who can use a baitcasting reel. I've used heavier spinning rods and reels and I feel I have more control with bigger lures with casting equipment, I am also a lot more accurate with casting larger lures that I am with spinning which is why my spinning is confined to smaller finesse presentations. My friend uses a MH spinning outfit as he doesn't like casting and I've used it to fish 1/2oz spinnerbaits and the amount of control between the fishing that bait with the spinning reel compared to a casting reel is not even comparable, the casting reel is far better suited for the 3/8oz and up lures. To me it is strange that one would use a casting reel to flip with and a spinning reel for other stuff since it is much easier to flip and pitch with a spinning reel, the only reason I don't is the control factor with the bigger lures using casting gear but to each their own.

I do all my fishing with M or MH rods with 15# braid. They've been excellent for all around fishing.

There are people that don't own a b/c and I'm one of them. I do everything from freshwater to inshore, to pelagic fish offshore with spinning gear. Using the appropriate sized spinning combo there is very little that can't be done and few fish that can't be handled. Whatever you are comfortable with, is the right ticket.

I prefer baitcasters over spinning b/c I like the way they don't twist your line after casting a 100x's. I am still old school in that I like to use mono for most of my fishing b/c it is more forgiving. So when casting cranks, spinners, jerkbaits, etc it would snarl constantly. Hated it!! Braid on a spinning reel makes sense b/c you don't get that as much, but you still get some line twist which will occassionally cause problems. With the baitcaster you don't ever get that. The only real presentations I use my spinning gear for anymore is for dropshotting or anything under 1/4 oz.

It is purely a personal preference thing, everyone is different. Best thing is to go with what feels comfortable to you.

thank you everyone for your comments and input. i think i might sell or trade a couple baitcasters for a couple spinning reels. one shimano calcutta dc. and i have 3 steez. all on gloomis rods. i dont want junk reels or rods.
