  4. they are good kissers!! ;D And please forgive me, I was not targeting Akitas or any other breed of dog, just trying to make a point.
  5. Pitbulls get waaaayyy too much negitive publicity. A year ago when an Akita ripped the flesh off of my 4 year old neices back and shoulder, requiring many many stiches, and possibly some reconstructive surgery, you never heard a thing about it on the news, news paper, or radio. People are infatuated with these dogs. When I hear about a dog fighting ring being busted or bite incident, or what ever, I get very upset. I pray for the injured, but my heart aches due to the fact the media will be targeting this breed agian, building fear within the public eye. All in all, there is a cultural difference in the way people see pets. Some see just an animal, Others see a family member. I see a family member.... I think 18-24 months will learn em'
  6. I was down there in july and was using the usual bottom rig with squid. Caught a few croaker off the peir and sandbar sharks off the shore. bottom rigs and squid can catch all types of fish. Never really tried anything else. Have fun.
  7. good article in this thread. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1187355723/0
  8. Welcome. Tons of info here. I've learned alot since I registered, and everyone is very helpful.
  9. i was out early this weekend, and the same thing happend. I tried a pop r and a rapala skitter pop, also a buzz bait but no takers. Maybe I needed a smaller lure, or just to work on my technique.
  10. wow, that sound like a good idea. thanks. I forgot to mention, its a spinning reel. :-[ thanks again.
  11. First I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Allyn, Im 23 and I live in northern VA. Growing up my father would take me out on his jonboat to go catfishing. I was young and full of energy, and found it quite boring. I always hinted that I would like to fish for something else, like bass, but because he didn't know much about it, I never learned. So a few months ago I went to sports authority and got an abu garcia combo, remembering that my dad used to fish with and abu rod. Well needless to say, you get what you pay for, I snapped the rod in half. The reel was still good though, and I bought a new rod and everything was fine, until I ran out of the factory spooled line that came with the reel. It came with triline 8lb green color. I went out and got some 8lb spiderwire assuming because it was the same size it would work. Got the directions from BR on how to tie the arbor knot, and I put slight pressure on for the first 10-15 turns then let it reel on slack the rest of the way. I wasted a whole 330 yards of spiderwire, lol. Every time I tried, the line went on EXTREMELY loose. So I figured maybe it was the line. I went out and got the line that came with the reel. Same thing. LOOSE. I knew it didn't look right. So I went to Dick's and told the guy at the fishing dept. my problem, and He just talked more than he listened. He was telling me I was putting on braided line or my line was to big. I know what type of line I had, I even showed him. I was so frustrated I bought a whole new reel, and had them machine spool it on the reel. any help on what im doing wrong, or any tips would be greatly appreciated. -Allyn
  12. HAHA. I do the same thing. We have a drainage pond in my neighborhood and there's one decent size bass that just hangs out right by the concrete runoff pipe. I guess its the only structure in there except for grass.
  13. I agree, but from the article it looks as if you wouldn't even need it in most cases.
  14. great article, thanks for posting.
  15. I just quit about 8 months ago. I was in the shower with the hot water on full blast when steam made it very hard for me to breath. I said "thats it" and quit. I've had a smoke or two at the bar with buddies since but don't really crave it anymore. The cravings come mostly from habbit, even though alot has to do with addiction. If you smoke on the water, you should create a new habbit of chewing gum while out, or something. What ever you do, you should really WANT to quit other wise your wasting your time. GOOD LUCK!!
  16. you just ruined my day. :'( just playin, a co-worker told me that story and i thought it was funny.
  17. Certain types of manure used to be transported (as everything was back then) by ship. In dry form it weighs a lot less, but once water (at sea) hit it. It not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by-product is methane gas. As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen; methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern. BOOOOM! Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was discovered what was happening. After that, the bundles of manure where always stamped with the term on them which meant to the sailors to "Ship High In Transit." In other words, high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane. Bet you didn't know that one. Here I always thought it was a fishing term.
  18. Thanks Avid, Im pretty new to the forum, but I just want to say that Hip Hop is not Synonymous with gangster. I know why it would seem that way, with all the junk mtv is showing.
