  1. I have caught catfish on spinnerbaits in the Potomac river at Belmont Bay.
  2. Most of the LMBs I have caught have been on spinnerbaits. I found the bloodspots to be the spinner of choice, it is my go to spinner. I have caught decent size bass 2lb to 4lb almost back to back casts with the bloodspot spinners. I just use a slow steady retrieve however I do try to make a big entrance into the water, good splash and I have most likely gotten a lot of reaction hits because of this. Pay the extra money and buy good spinners, you get what you pay for buying the cheap ones, they are junk. I usually spend between $3 and $6 per spinner and have a nice assortment and I have had some good luck with them. I have also attached crawfish to them and have caught bass that way to. I know it sounds crazy but it really helps. I hope this small amount of information helps you.
  3. Great write up Joe, I am going to try using a jig for the first time tomorrow. I now feel like I will at least have an idea of what I need to do in order to have a chance in catching a bass with one. There is a great drop off in the Occoquan river that I have been meaning to try, this will give me that opportunity to really hit the deep water (15-20 feet) hard. I have blue, black green and brown jigs and have three different color crawfish ue to use (red, blue and black). Any suggestions on the color crawfish or do I need to buy another color to use. Once again, thanks for the great write up, that is why I love this forum. Ron
  4. I have only recently began using the gulp worms. I have caught (1) 2.5 lb LMB and (1) 3.5lb catfish with them. I would say the jury is still out deliberating at this point in time as I want to make sure I give them an honest effort. I have also tried the senkos and have not caught anything with them yet. I have also had a lot of good hits with them and have not set the hook properly.

I will let you know when I get back Saturday evening. I am also goig to fish for long-nosed gar, they have been schooling over near the Fairfax Yacht Club in Belmont Bay. I have seen some trophy sizes ones there the last couple of weekends. My largest so far is 31 inches and it weighed 8lbs. I want to catch a 40 inch one or bigger so I can get a citation/award from VDGIF (Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. I have definately seen some that big last week but they are real hard to catch. I am going to make a rope lure to use, once they bite it their teeth get stuck in it. They are all teeth and they fight better than any fish I have ever caught.

I just started using them a few weeks ago but have yet to hook a LMB on one. I will keep trying, I am sure my luck is about to change. My boss has really good luck with them in the Potomac, he uses the swimbait in the link below. I just bought some yesterday and have only tried them twice. I will try them this weekend in the Occoquan and the Potomac rivers. http://www.stormlures.com/products/luresdetail.cfmmodelName=suspending_wildeye_swim_shad&freshorsalt=Fresh&type=soft_lures
  7. That's a nice looking bass, good catch. I hope he is back in the pond for other to catch.

I like using the Gulp worms because of the scent, they seem to attract fish that my other worms do not.
  10. I believe that would be the Occoquan dam, it seperates the upper and lower Occoquan. I believe it is the same dam that is to the far right hand side of the Occoquan Regional Park boat ramp. I could be wrong, but I am not aware of any other dam on the Occoquan.
  11. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. If I ever had my equipment stolen I would be ready to cut off the persons hand that stole it.
  12. Where's the picture?
  13. I used these snakes quite a bit this past weekend both top water and rigged and I must say that I am extremely disappointed in them. I do not believe that these really work that well around the Northern Virginia area. Doug if you read this I would love for you to prove me wrong. I challenge you to come to Northern Virginia and prove that these lures will actually catch fish up here.
  14. I have heard so many people speak about catch ratios using trailor hooks with spinners here on this forum. Any time I get a hit on a spinner I am able to catch the bass and I don't use trailer hooks. I have bought some due to the advice on this forum but have yet to use them as I have not had a need to use them yet. I guess I will eventually try them when I begin having problems landing bass.
  15. Time to put on the wading boots as some of these figures seem quite exagerated.
  16. The salmon do make their way up river, some as far as Lake Winnipisaukee thanks to the fish ladders that were installed years ago. The problem is the polution hurts their ability to make it all the way up to the lake. Manchester and Concord need to stop polluting the river.
  17. Welcme to the forum. There are a lot of good people here that are always willing to help answer questions and or provide tips on bass fishing.
  18. Do you have your DSL filter in between your phone and phone jack? Have you tried a different DSL filter? Do you pay for your in home wiring troubleshooting? Not all carriers provide this for free. Do you know where the phone line enters the house? Do you have access to it where it enters the house? If yes, splice the wire and add a new phone jack and try it out.

Welcome to the forum, be careful it's addictive. I find myself spending a lot of time on here when I am not fishing.
  21. There's no shame in getting skunked if you are going for the big bass. I would rather spend the entire time going for the big reward than settle on something just so I can say I caught a fish.
  22. Does your DSL modem work in the other jack? That would be the deciding factor as to where the problem is. The DSL modem and the phone operate on two different/distinct time slots (telecom terminology). If the modem works on the jack that the phone was plugged into and if the phone is ok then the carier (i.e. Verizon) has a problem. If the modem does not work you have a wiring problem in your house. Have you checked the cable between the phone jack and the phone?

The Baltimore Orioles Stadium is known as Fenway South!!!!! How many other fans can say that about their teams. It is a sea of red jerseys and the chants of Lets Go Sox are muted for the games on TV, that is pretty sad if you are a Baltimore fan. I have to hate the axis of evil (the Yankees). Yankees fans are not allowed in my house, my car or in my boat (lol).
