  1. I don't know, but alot of the animals sold in pet stores are wild animals. I was thinking the same thing as btlva, I don't see any difference in keeping a bass than in keeping a catfish or any of the tropical fish people keep, or even parrots for that matter.
  2. How big was your 1lb 1oz? I keep hearing about 12inch 1.5pounders, but this fat one was over 14" and just a hair over one pound on my scale, which may or may not be accurate.
  3. Where can I find those types of regulations? I have the booklet that tells the minimum sizes and limits and all that but I didn't see anything in there about keeping game fish alive.
  4. I was just watching some videos on youtube of people feeding thier pet bass and I was thinking it would be pretty interesting to raise one. How big of a tank would one need and what would be the biggest practical size of a bass to keep? I'm thinking around 12 or 14 inches. Any thoughts? My friend put a little 5 inch catfish he caught into his fishtank and it kept attacking his goldfish.
  5. Thanks, I guess I was was making up for getting skunked on saturday
  6. Went out this morning, and it was pretty slow. I caught 3 bass, my buddy caught zero, although he did get one bluegill. The first bass was a little dink maybe 8", second one a bit better 11.5" and the third one was the biggest, 14.5" and quite fat. Didn't even feel him hit, just felt a weight on the end of the line so I set the hook and he blew up out of the water. Caught them all on a weightless 4" blue robo worm. Here's a pic of the biggest one.
  7. Both are good, but which one's better depends. If the one big one is HUGE, 10+ pounds, and the dinks are really little, like 12 inchers, I'd rather catch the one big one. But if the fast action is good size bass, 3 to 5 pounders lets say, I'd rather catch a lot of those than one bigger one all day.
  8. Thats awesome. You catch it in that pond in the background? I got skunked yesterday >
  9. When I went camping this summer I fell off a boat with my phone in my pocket. I took the battery out right away and dried it, and it wouldn't turn on. When I got home a couple days later I put it on the charger and it worked. Still using it today.
  10. So I'd been wanting to get a baitcasting set up to learn with and I gave a guy 40 bucks and he gave me 4 rods, 2 spinning reels and 2 baitcasters. All the rods are pretty nice, 2 pistol grips, one of the long grip type baitcasting rod, and a pretty heavy duty spinning rod/reel setup. Anyways, I've been practicing casting with the baitcasters and I've got the hang of it but they're older reels and its seems like when I cast it doesn't want to spin freely, like its rough and it makes some noise. I was thinking that some type of grease inside would help it be smoother. What kind of grease would I want to use, and how would I go about taking the reel apart (what parts should be lubricated)?
  11. Really? If so I didn't know that. I know that if you catch a pike you're required to kill it by law and report it, but never heard that about carp. I know a couple guys that fish for carp almost exlusively and they never said anything about it. They just keep the big ones and throw the small ones back.
  12. I've had it happen too. I caught a tiny bass that was about as long as the spinner I was using. Also caught one that was only about an inch longer than the senko he tried to eat.
  13. Thanks guys, that last pic is what I was thinking of doing but wasn't sure. I think I'm going to cut mine next time I use them. I'm going out tomorrow so I'll try to get at least one fish on a jig.
  14. I havn't used jigs very much (aside from crappie jigs and a simple jig head and grub) but I bought a couple different colors of bass jigs recently. They're just the head and a skirt and I added plastic trailers. Anyways, they all came with pretty stiff brush gaurds, and to me this seems like it would make hook ups harder, and I've though about cutting it off. Do you guys leave them or cut them off?
  15. I was just looking on Google earth, and it seems the only ponds I'm finding in close vicinity are golf courses. I had no idea there were so many golf courses miles away from my house. And the other bigger lakes I find are all pretty far away. Is there a more efficient way to search on it so it just hones in on bodies of water?
  16. Over the summer I went 2 or 3 times a week, but in the last two months I've been out maybe 3 or 4 times > But then again I got laid off last week, so next week I'm gonna try to go daily ;D
  17. Yep, Kutless rocks. Apparently they're getting pretty popular too. Everywhere I wear that shirt or my Kutless hoodie someone usually says something about it, other bands I wear most people have never heard of.
  18. I'm pretty sure its a 5inch but it might be a 6" lol. I guess the fish just looks bigger cuz its close to the camera Yea sac river is ok, but so far the only bass I've caught in there are little dinks under 10". From the shore its hard to reach places where I can see bushes or other types of cover that might be holding bass. I like clear lake, been there one time, but we didn't know where we were going so it took us forever to find a spot we could fish from the shore, but the water level was really low, so it wasn't great, but we caught a couple fish. I wanna go back there if I have access to a boat, since I feel like its a waste to drive 3 hours to only fish one spot from the shore. I'll try the mapquest thing and see if I can find anything.
  19. I have several rods. The main one I use is 6ft 6inch medium heavy, I have it spooled with 10lb. This was the one I caught most of the bass with. 5" senko I'll have to try the bigger roboworms. I only have one pack so far of the 6 inch blue.
  20. Hey guys, been lurking around here awhile, just registered. A little about myself, I'm 18, used to fish alot when I was younger, but for the past 3 or 4 years havn't done much fishing at all. Just got a licsence this summer and have been out a couple times. I used to live in WA when I went fishing but now I'm in northern CA so I've had trouble finding any good bass spots. Been to clear lake one time, but its a 3 hour drive for me. Anybody recomend any good spots? Anyways, yesterday I went fishing with some buddies in this canal/inlet whatever it was that feeds into the Sacramento river. I caught 5 bass, and we got one catfish and a couple crappies. Nothing big, the bass were 12-14 inches, a couple smaller ones too. I got one on a white/pink crappie jig, the others on a green senko and one on a red senko. All the worms I fished weightless. Also lost 2 or 3 fish on a blue roboworm. I think I lost them because I was using an ultralight rod and it wasn't stiff enough to set the hook thru the worm and into the fish (rigged texas style). This was the first time I've had good success with rubber worms and it really built my confidence in the lure, I'm gonna go get more senkos! I also have some worms from a long time ago, but I think they're some knock off brand and they didn't work. I don't know if its cuz they're old or cheap but from now on I'm gonna buy either senkos or roboworms lol. Anyways here's a couple pics.
