Pond Fishing: A "New" Trick
One time we were trout fishing and after we had left and gone a few miles down the road realized we left a rod at the lake. This was after we had stopped and gotten gas and ate some food. So we headed back, and there was a fish on the end of the line. About an hour since we initially left it there.

Caught a nice bass yesterday.
I've never had much luck at Folsom lake. Only been there two or three times this year and didn't catch anything. But then again we never took our boat out so maybe if we did that we'd be able to hit some more productive spots.

When to set the hook when fishing minnows.
I tried hooking them both through the lips and the back.

Caught a nice bass yesterday.
Thanks. Besides those two we had one more that was about 2 inches bigger than the one in the last pic, one a little smaller, one 14 incher and two or three dinks under a foot. Went back today and only caught 2 bass one the size I just posted one a little smaller and a catfish. Hooked a pretty big one saw the size of its head I think it would have been at least 20 inches but it wrapped around the stringer and then my line snapped after we got it untangled.

When to set the hook when fishing minnows.
Ok thanks. What size for largemouth, the same as stripers? Do you apply the pressure as soon as you feel the fish biting and do you hook minnows through the mouth or the back?

When to set the hook when fishing minnows.
Fished with minnows today and yesterday for the first time. Yesterday we dangled them under the bobber and it was pretty self explanatory when to set the hook. Didn't miss any solid bites. Today I tried fishing them on a drop shot rig and only hooked 2. Got several more bites. Tried hooking them both through the lips and through the back. My question is how long do I let the fish run before setting the hook? The two that I hooked I opened up the bail until it stopped pulling line then set the hook. But then on all the others I tried doing that I got nothing. Tried setting it right after it bit. Still nothing. I also get two different types of bites. One was where it started swimming off in one direction and took line if I opened the bail, the other was a solid tap tap tap. Similar to the bite when fishing a nightcrawler or plastic worm, but much harder. Could that type of bite had been catfish?

Caught a nice bass yesterday.
Been forever since I've posted, but caught this sucker at Clear Lake yesterday. On a nightcrawler dangled below a bobber of all things. Was about 23" inches long or so and according to a cheap scale 8.5lbs. He bit on my buddy's rod but he wasn't paying attention and had another rod in his hands fishing a roboworm. I saw his bobber go down so I grabbed his rod and set the hook. Knew immediately it was something big. It was pulling our 12foot aluminum boat had to kick the trolling motor on to pull it to open water so it wouldn't go between the poles holding the dock up and tangle the line. After he put the other rod away I let him reel it in the rest of the way since it was his rod then I grabbed it and pulled it into the boat. Biggest bass we've caught so far.

Favorite Screw-ups
Heres a story my friend told me happened to his cousins: They drift down the river in small boat with a 5 hp motor, then decide to turn around...and realize that the motor wont pull them against the current. It just stays in the same spot, but by paddling at the same time as going full throttle they can inch thier way upstream, that is untill they run out of gas. They ended up having to drift to shore and one them had to walk several miles to the closest gas station, and then they still had to struggle against the current to get back to the boat ramp. This guy I worked with had a pretty nice 18ft boat, and he ran out of gas in the middle of the lake and only had 1 paddle.

Favorite Screw-ups
One time my brother chucked his rod and reel into the water while casting and the bail was still open, we were on a dock and it was pretty deep, but luckily there was a bobber on the line and we were able to fish it out. Another time I hooked a random kid in the leg casting while I was fly fishing and they had to take him to the hospital.

New Boat.
Thats awesome. Does it run? How did you manage to get it for free?

trout?
You can also throw wooly worm type flies with the ultra light gear and a split shot a foot or two up the line.

Stainless Steel vs. Tungsten
Whats the advantage of using these over lead? Simply the fact that lead is toxic?

your wife , girlfreind or daughter
Definately not as serious, or even close, but I have a couple female friends that want to go fishing every once in a while. But they don't even have their own gear or anything.

Have any of you guys used these hooks? (pics)
So I was at Wal Mart last night and saw these hooks. Looked interesting and the package suggested using them for senko style baits and soft jerkbaits. I bought two packs, one 1/16 oz and one 1/32 oz. Have you guys tried something like this, and did you like them? This was the first time I'd seen these types of hooks.

Couple of nice ones, but....
Awesome fish, and good luck on the 40 pounder. I wish I knew how to fish for stripers, the biggest ones I've caught were about 10" long and caught on accident :

Only a couple dinks today.
Went out this morning, and only caught 3 bass. Really small ones, two about 10"-11" and one a little smaller than that. Caught them all on the shad colored Rattletrap I just bought on Sunday, which was pretty cool cuz I love catching fish the first time I use a new lure, but then I proceeded to snag it and lose to come log >

Riggin/fishing crawdad baits?
Alright I'll give it a shot. I'd have to go check again but I'm pretty sure I have both sizes of the beaver.
