  1. I hope you had a gps to mark the spot your rig fell in.... I lost one of my fathers old crankbaits a few weeks ago, marked it, and you better believe I'll be back when the water drops.....
  2. the hustler was hot! I lived in that area before it was impounded.... it's one of my favorites. the old trestle bridges and stock tanks and creek beds are still there.... 8-)
  3. man...... water temp here today was 70*.... I've already got too good a tan. ;D
  4. If you have the time, you'll get a deeper longer lasting charge with the 2 amp setting. But it will take overnight and maybe then some....
  5. If your using a portable charger, disconnect the jumper. If your using an onboard multiple bank charger, you should be able to leave the jumper.
  6. Thanks all. Went fishing with a preacher this morning, He said she could come with us as long as she didn't catch any more hawgs. .... Alarm clock went off this am, she rolled over and said she felt like she might catch a biggun, so she was going to sleep in.... ;D I hooked one a bit after noon, started pulling reallllly hard , taking drag, I thought i'd got her, fought it for a few minutes, got it to the boat.... 7lb catfish...... > :-/... hooked several bedded bass, nothing over three lbs though..... gonna try again in the am.... heres another pic with the belly unobscured... edit; her tail and belly were tore up real well... If she'd a caught her a week ago, she'd have been an easy nine pounds i'm sure..... and just so you know, the bass was thrown back immediately after this pic! We only keep crappie and catfish.
  7. yep, she thinks she wears the britches now. Probably wants to fish out of the front of the boat..... And she hasn't let me forget that hers was 9 oz bigger than my best.... :-[
  8. 8 lb 14 oz. 26 inches long. Out of the back of the boat. On one of my home made worms. She's got it bad now. ;D
  9. minn kota recommends a 50 amp circuit breaker on the hot side. not running one will void your warranty. Don't know what motor guide suggests.... six gauge will be plenty fine.
  10. If it is surface oxidation, you can use a rubbing compound and a buffer to remove it. 3m makes good products,, and they even have a marine application. I got mine at academy. you can get their auto grade compounds at oreillys. and no, i do not work for 3m.
  11. 6 gauge wire will be sufficient, and wire the batteries in parallel; pos to neg, hook tm up to one battery's positive, the other battery's negative.
  12. two batteries increases your run time, either ran one at a time, or hooked up in parallel..... WOuldn't matter what type of battery, agm, flooded, or otherwise.... I'm curious why your marine dealer would tell you that.?. :-? although, it is my understanding that an agm battery will hold a charge longer than a flooded cell, maybe that is what the dealer is referring to.... I've not broken down and used anything better than an old flooded cell myself. Either way, I'd run two if I could.
  13. I like mine. very much so. I use one for my gps. turn it anyway you want, it'll hold solid.
  14. update..... : I'd decided on a 12v 55lb thrust Mk maxxum at bps for $689. Got there, they still had a pallet of mk AT 24v 65lb thrust motors on sale for $399. .... so I ended up with the 24v, a new quantum code, shimano rod, new worm bag, a new tackle box for my wife, around a hundred dollars worth of tackle, took the wife out to a nice dinner, and still made it home with a hundred bucks in my pocket.... Just enough for a new tm battery. and it gets better..... With the old tm, i could fish all day, but later in the day, i could tell that my ooomph was gone. Hook up my charger, and it'd read 40-45% charge left. Fished all day last friday, No fade noticeable. Got home, hooked the charger up, old battery had 85% charge left, new battery had 90% charge left. 8-) Can't wait for my dual pro 3 bank to show up in the mail.... now I'm saving for a humminbird SI unit. Thanks for all the input guys. I appreciate it.
  15. Nine bolts and the shift linkage were all I had to remove. It was well worth doing at home. Reconnecting the shift linkage was the hardest part, had to have my wife turn the bolt while I held everything in alignment. Took all of 55 minutes once I had the proper parts in hand. The old impeller was in good shape, it now resides under a seat just in case. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. Larry
  16. You'll still need to connect both batteries to the charger. If i read you correctly..... the jumper will not suffice for getting two batteries charged. someone correct me if i'm wrong.
  17. if i gather correctly,... you are running a 12 volt tm. you want to run two batteries, for extra run time. you hook up the charger per the instructions. you can then do one of two things. you can hook the tm up to one battery and run it til it gets low, then connect the tm to the other battery and continue running. Or (what i'd do) is to hook your batteries up in parallel, and run off that. As HPBB has suggested. You'll get better run time and better service out of your batteries hooked in parallel. IMHO. 8-)
  18. Well, went to lufkin, got the impeller kit. Came home, dropped the lower unit, 6 bolts. the hard part was getting the shift linkage disconnected. No problem, till I get the unit on the saw horses, and pull the new impeller unit out of the box. I got home with the wrong one..... and of course, i didn't find this out til saturday, and the marine shop is closed til monday..... And it was beautiful here Sunday, and i'm stuck at home with no lower unit :'(..... anywhoo, got the right one monday, had to work and no chance to get to the impeller til tomorrow, It's been really simple so far. I hope i didn't just shoot myself in the foot. :-?..... I'll let ya'll know if it goes ok....I'll let ya'll know if it doesn't! labor at the shop i got the part at was flat rate two hours, at $70 an hour..... that's a bunch of worms.....
  19. If you go with a portable charger, you will have to disconnect the jumper. If you use an onboard charger, you won't have to disconnect the jumper for your tm batteries. Each battery gets it's own dedicated output from an onboard charger. If batt. 1 reaches full charge before batt.2, the charger will swing the amperage to batt. 1 to finish it up. Where as the portable will only handle one battery at a time. You need to run one circuit breaker inline for the tm. MK recommends a 50 amp circuit breaker for a 24v system. I also just purchased a 24v TM, and I'm thinking about going with two(2) 2 bank onboard chargers... one for the tm's,and another for the other two batteries. I run my motor off one battery, and my accessories off another, so i'm running four batteries.... never been stranded due to lack of juice.......
  20. Been there done that, thanks. If you click 12 volt, you get recommendations for the 55 lb motors, if you click 24 volt, you get 70 lb motors..... I just wonder if 55 lbs would manuver me around in this stout wind.?.... Sam Rayburn keeps white caps most of the time... :-/
  21. remote control would have been handy today. According to the stories, the little lake i fish filled up so fast after it was impounded, that there is logging equipment on the bottom of it somewhere.... it is a veritable underwater forest... and sam rayburn is quite similar. maybe i'm just drawn to flooded timber? but i do find myself on the pedal quick and hard rather often. But with more thrust than i currently have, I imagine i'd be able to avoid the stumps without too much problem... I hope... I'm currently running the original 36 lb thrust MK that was on the boat when i got it. I'm looking at 55lb MK, either the maxxum, or the powerdrive v2. but i wonder if 55 lb is going to be enough.?....Got blown all over the last two times I went out.... and I know it's going to be a while before the winds set... Maybe I ought to go ahead and step up to 24 volt?.... any one think 55 lb would be inadequate?
  22. Hey guys. Wind was blowing so hard today. Had to trim my motor up and use it to get off a windblown bank. In the process I believe i might have fried my impeller. Noticed that i had hardly any h2o pressure, took it to the ramp and brought her home. So has anyone here replaced their impeller their self? I'm of above average mechanical ability, and the marine shop here has a month and a half back log..... and the h2o temp was 61 degrees..... caught a few small sows full of eggs, and several small bucks. nothing over two pounds... sure hate to miss the rest of it due to boat problems.... this is a 30 y/o motor, Johnson 115 horse sea drive. I've had it the past two years, so I know it has that much time on it. No telling when the last time it was changed... I do have the shop manual for my motor. Is this do-able? :-? and yes i know, I should have already done it. >
  23. So I'm not the only one catching funny looks when opening up a pack of worms and smelling them and holding them up to the light... :-? ;D always seem to hook a big'un shortly after lighting a cigar. never fails. :
  24. I always run mine for a few minutes before going to the lake, with water. The only time i didn't do this, was the only time my motor failed to start. Had water in my fuel.... Hate to be on the ramp with something that won't start. I figure I'd rather have that happen at the house.
