  1. I like using Google Earth to locate areas where the river runs close to a road. Then just go for a drive and you'll find some spots. There is also a map on the fish commission site called the Juniata water trail, has some decent info. I'm still learning the river myself and that is how I go about it. I'm heading to the J tomorrow up river of Lewistown. Probably be throwing small soft plastics, but later in the year tubes, cranks, spinnerbaits and some topwater.
  2. I'm interested in trying out one of these tourneys. When is the next?
  3. you could fill up a clorox bottle or something similar with sand or pea gravel and the handle makes for easy handling and something to tie your rope to.
  4. I'd be interested in helping with some mapping. I have some background in maps and just picked up a depthfinder and chartplotter. Haven't been out in a boat there but done some bank fishing. How is the fishing there?
  5. The corrugated plastic sheeting is called Coroplast. Sign makers use it for well signs. It's about $20 for a 4 x 8 sheet versus about $100 for a 4 x 4 sheet of aluminum. You can get the sign material for free like i did. Picked it up from a builder's show that was finished. Just another option for you. I have some pics of my project in photobucket but i can't post a link in here yet.
  6. Plywood will work but eventually wood rots and is heavy. Look at using a high density foam with a sheet of corrugated plastic for rigidity.
  7. I believe they are refering to the flexing and popping of the hull. When you stand on that area it will pop in and out when walking around the boat.
  8. I used the professional enamel (satin black) on the inside of the boat. I sanded the existing paint lightly with a medium grit sandpaper to remove the oxidation and then wiped it down with denatured alcohol. Not sure if it will hold up or not. On the outside I have some metal etching primer that I will be using but I'm waiting for a little warmer weather to use it. At $20 a spray can I want to make sure it is done right.
  9. Have you looked at the Rustoleum enamal that is made for appliances? I may try that on my boat, should give a durable paint job.
  10. You could also use an angle grinder and cut the bench out leaving the rivets in the boat if you plan to cover the inside with carpet or vinyl. If you do decide to drill out the rivets make sure that you find some blind rivets or use regular rivets and a little JB weld. I'll get some pictures of my project soon. I also have a 1436 that I cut the one bench out. The only problem I see with removing the bench is the "oil can effect" some guys refer to on here.
