  1. I fished a tournament last year as a co angler. we were both throwing identical black and blue chatter baits on very similar rods and reels. the only difference was i was using 12lb fluorocarbon and my partner was using braid. I out fished him 20 to 0 until about 2pm that day. he finally switched to mono and was able to catch 3 in the last hour. this was very eye opening to me that even with a moving bait the bass can see much better than we give them credit for. BTW the water wasn't even crystal clear where we were. now i don't use braid at all unless i'm fishing slop or i have a leader tied on.
  2. this might sound funny but i remember camping as a kid and we had an electric worm probe that you stuck in the ground and plugged in. within a couple of minutes worms would come up out of the ground all over within about 2 feet from the probe. it was a lot easier than digging. i just did a quick search and found the following: http://www.discovercircuits.com/H-Corner/worm-harv.htm i take no responsibility for anyone that wants to try this
  3. a bobby's perfect frog! with braid and a very heavy action rod
  4. maybe try a longer rod. I use a 7' MH fast action rod and little to no hook set is required. also make sure your hooks are sharp I inspect all my lures with a hook file before throwing them, it's pretty surprising how dull some hooks can be right out of the package.
  5. i also use the uni to uni but with one modification. double up the braided line on itself and tie the uni with the loop that you formed. since braid is such a small diameter this mod helps keep it from cutting into the flourocarbon. and the knot is still plenty small enough to go through your guides. hope this helps.
  6. I've fished as a co-angler for about 5-6 years and I've won a few tourneys from the back of the boat. My advice is to pick a lure you have confidence in and never let yourself get discouraged from fishing in the back. as long as your not fishing behind KVD I'm sure your boater is missing fish and if you keep your head in the game you can catch them. also look at being a co-angler as an advantage. you don't have to worry about boat control at all, you're free to move around in the back and make casts to all kinds of targets that the boater may miss.
  7. I'm a long time lurker and havent posted much here but i would like to comment on this as I am used to dealing with matters of the law I'm a police officer and I have to be honest, how would this would be against the law??? what if you were fishing and someone pulled up next to your boat and started slapping the water with their oars or something. I dont see how thats against the law, but its sure going to screw up your fishing. just because we all have the right to fish with licenses on public water doesnt mean we cant prevent anyone else from being on that same body of water unless they are doing something that is a crime against your person. I would like to know your thoughts Just as a point of reference where are you from Nightstick? Most southern states have laws on the books making it illegal to harass, or impede in anyway people involved in hunting and fishing. Add to that you go in front of a judge that hunts, before a jury that hunts, and it doesn't take much to show that you were intereferred with. Wisconsin, with that in mind i am a municipal officer that doesnt deal much with enforcing hunting and fishing laws. i guess i'm just playing devils advocate. I would think it would be pretty easy to ruin someones day of fishing without making it look like you were outright harrassing them. so i'm wondering how these laws would be enforced
  8. I agree, they could some up with a million reasons why they are there doing whatever it is they are doing. videotape them in the act! that will help out when you call the authorities

  10. Yep. I saw that. He used a dropper rig. But instead he used a fluke. It was cool. I saw both the Strike King show and an In-Fisherman show that both used the double fluke rig in different ways. Mr. Menendez talked about the hooks being able to slide apart from each other being good if you're fighting two fish at once so they can't break off. Doug Stange used a rig where you tie a double surgeons knot with a leader to the main line which gives you two tag ends to tie your hooks to for this rig. I see the advantages to not having swivels in front of the flukes, such as more weedless. But if you have two fish on they could pull apart from one another. Any one else see this episode? Any thoughts on the best way to rig this?
  11. I think I know the bag you are talking about....Its the one i want to get because its got plenty of room for boxes and soft plastics pouches....I'll be fishing tournaments as a rider this year and wasnt sure if this would be to big to bring on someone else's boat. Would that be rude to show up with 5 rods and a huge bag like that? thoughts? I fish tournaments as a non-boater and I show up with 7 rods and a bag that hold (8) 3700's and two smaller boxes on each side. I would say that depending on how much inclement weather gear you bring with, this is getting close to the limit that you can bring into a full size tournament rig as a non-boater. But of course this depends on the boater and the boat.
  12. I have to agree, I'm a big fan of gander's guide series rods. They come in just about every length and action that I need. For me, I don't have a lot of money to put down on my fishing equipment and with these rods if you break it just take it back to the store and they'll replace it no questions asked. Rather than having to pay shipping to send it back to some company and wait to get it back. I also wouldn't replace a high quality rod with one but for the price and warrantee they are well worth it.
  13. I ordered the same one last year and i love it. I really enjoy the 4.7:1 ratio for deep cranking. Surprisingly the reel casts very well for being fairly inexpensive. I ordered mine when BPS had them on clearence. p.s. Hello to everyone, this is my first post here. I have been snooping around in the backround for quite some time though.
