  1. It isn't going to hurt, its normal. Just store your reel in a dry place.
  2. Those are two knots that have a significantly higher failure rate than the palomar that I use with a #2 snap.
  3. I have a Deep South XXH Flipping Stick that serves me well. That rod, 65# braid, and a bad attitude is a ton of fun.
  4. Awesome. Reminds me of Early August up here, chasing fresh kings on the jetties and piers, stacking up for the run up the rivers.
  5. Back when I actually fished for sunnies and gills, small jigs were the ticket. Anything from 1/16 down to 1/100 oz. It takes a special kind of UL rod to toss these. I had a 9' slip float rod, by Fenwick I believe, for running jigs under a flaot and casting, and a 5' Daiwa Procaster SS Tournament UL for more vertical jigging. Both rods were VERY flimsy. For line, 2 or 4# Silverthread worked great.
  6. My condolences to your wife
  7. Exactly. This is just going round and round.
  8. Matzuo Sickle Hooks: http://www.matzuo.com/
  9. I'm hoping to light them up at Fairhaven this Saturday. After the dinkfest at Conesus, I need a good day. After deer season is over, we have to get out and stick some chromers. Been whacking them on calm days off the piers.
  10. I used to use the little octopus hooks for trout. Tried a few out for drop shot, in the #2 size and they worked fine, though they get dull fast.
  11. Funny stuff. I edited some of the colorful language out.
  12. You aren't going to gain confidence, if you don't at least have a few pointers to start with. The Denny Brauer video is very good. There are two Lunkerville episodes that feature my friend Ronnie that are very good. he doesn't say much, but watch him fish a jig slowly. Its art. http://rockville.tv/lunkerville/jighead1.html http://rockville.tv/lunkerville/jighead2.html
  13. He threw a buzzbait through the entire video.
  14. Doesn't matter, as long as its got a reasonable ITP, a metal frame, and a decent drag. My two frog rods have a Zillion SHA and a TD-X. Both are wearing Carbontex boots.
  15. The only issue with using one rod, that I can see, is that a toad is often a great follow up to a miss on a frog.
  16. Nate, bring your wally world snoopy combo up here, and I'll show you how to break it on a steelhead, LOL. I was just down at the lake, testing a repair to a friend's reel, a Steez. I found it quite funny to be fishing a $1000 combo for fish that require zero sensitivity.
  17. Let's keep this about showing off gear guys.
  18. Not at all. I step down for a toad, both in length and power. MH/F works fine.
  19. He's been one of my all time favorites since I was a teenager. Its great to hear him ramble on and on. Very cool stuff!
  20. Mostly Daiwa... gaggle of Sols/Itos/Alphas. Pair of Zills, trio of TD-X, three capricorn spinners, Calcutta, Stradic, a CI4.
  21. I've never understood suicide. I've been through some pretty dark and painful moments, but I just can't comprehend ending yourself as a better solution to picking yourself back up. I'm real sorry to hear that, man. Very sad.
  22. Full rear grip for moving baits, and heavy jig rods. For the rest, doesn't really matter, as long as its comfortable. I've been known to sand/grind/file offending handles.
  23. Good looking pup there! I had a newfie that HAD to be the one that released the fish. He'd wait until I unhooked them, and would gently take them in his mouth, and drop them off the side of the dock, LOL. Mostly sunnies that the kids caught.
