  1. I think the reason so many have great luck during crepuscular times (dawn and dusk) is that conventional wisdom says to throw them then, so that's when they throw them. Therefore, when that bite is on, they catch fish, and attribute it to timing when other factors could have contributed. This past Sunday, my partner and I alternated between topwater and drop shot Roboworms ALL DAY LONG, and destroyed the smallies where we were fishing. A few largemouth were caught as well. Keep an open mind, as some locations are just made for the topwater bite. In our case it was a submerged ledge, in about 12 FOW, dropping off to 25+. Fish stayed bear that ledge, and hunted the bait balls as they moved in or off shore.
  2. Here is a thread I started a few days ago, perhaps it will help: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1248847456/
  3. Probably something like a 4 pounder or something - nothing memorable. My club's AOY caught his personal best tourney fish on a senko, a 6-8 LMB, which is a very respectable NY bass.
  4. No problem, man. If you're ever bored, start visiting DNR sites for different states - they always have interesting stuff about the fishes of that state.
  5. A little moron and a big moron were standing on the edge of a bridge. The big one fell off, the little one didn't. Why didn't the little moron fall off?
  6. Boat rises with tide.....2nd step.
  7. What is this Berkley Power Pro you keep mentioning? Do you mean Berkley Fireline Braid, or Power Pro Braid. It like saying, "I drive a Chevy Mustang." :-?
  8. I'd be willing to bet its a Northern, or some other Esox, not a bass. Here's a northern I hooked when it attacked a ten inch Power Worm, dangling a few inches over the water:
  9. Agree. LOL I had it happen fishing ribbits more than anything else and it still scares the dogsh-- out of me every time. I almost fell in the pond at lunch today, little dink smashed my Ribbit about four feet in front of me. My bait had been through that spot at least 20 times already, so I wasn't expecting it. My favorite though is the explosion four feet behind the bait, startling and frustrating, LOL. That's when I switch to hollow frogs.
  10. True, most accurate scales tend to shave a pound or five off big fish. ;D
  11. Just take a picture of the fish hanging from the scale. Problem solved.
  12. Guess you don't fish frogs or topwater much.
  13. Here is a great resource for identifying these guys: http://www.uaex.edu/wneal/pond_management/pages/fishid/fishid.html
  14. Not a warmouth, green sunfish, Lepomis cyanellus. BTW, Chaenobryttus gulosus has been relegated to synonym status, the correct scientific name for Warmouth for the time being is Lepomis gulosus.
  15. I've been hooking up well with a 6/0 Owner Beast.
  16. One alewife lakes, I've been doing well with a LC Slim Shad in Aurora Black.
  17. Gonna use the Cash for Clunkers rebate, eh? ;D
  18. You mean that check from Nigeria is gonna bounce?
  19. Just go to the source.... http://www.epi.state.nc.us/epi/fish/
  20. Yep. Way too much sensationalism centered around freaking shark attacks. Very little research or educational programming the past couple of years. I used to look forward to shark week. Now I flinch when stepping in a puddle.
  21. Don't use sissy hooks. All the hooks mentioned above open up after a few fish, requiring a retie. Use Gammy 6/0 Octopus or Owner SSW in 5/0. Snelled. You can add a bait keeper with shrink wrap, though the snell does a nice job of holding the bait by itself. See my buddy's Burnie's site for the article and videos detailing the rig: http://www.burniehaney.com/blank.html
  22. I cannot stand it when someone is "selling" something and can't take the time to put a price on it. Nail the seller down to a price, then offer him half that. Seriously. That is how negotiating should work.
  23. For light finesse drop shot, I use 15# Power Pro and 4-8# CFX fluoro leader. Result:
  24. I don't like the box, but the FTO wallets work great.

You fishin' Estuaries?? I never heard o' freshwater crabs......... There are plenty of freshwater crabs, a simple Google search will make you well informed. Though I'm sure by "crabs" these posts are referring to crayfish, crawfish, or crawdads, depending on your part of the country.
