I use these, Raul, and they are the best rod wraps bar none. Add a Neoprene reel cover, and you are business.
  2. I use the speed bags, spinnerbait, and buzz wallets. the best that I've found for these purposes.
  3. The Fujis are great.
  4. Yep. A lot still use them, they just don't fess up to it
  5. That can also be remedied by finding some different jigheads with bigger, longer,or wider gap hooks. That said I have had success with paca and rage craws, gambler bb cricket, brush hogs in both sizes, zoom speed craws and critter craws, yammy creatures and flappin hogs, yum wooly hog tail, senkos, sizmic toads. Actually, that's why I said "some" plastics and "some" jigs, LOL. But, do you have any recommendations for large gap shaky heads?
  6. Its really just a heavy cover rod I'm looking for. I pitch big jigs, pegged punching plastics, and wing frogs with it. I like it to be a H or XH power, and moderate action. Light is a plus, and so is sub $200. Don't bother with the orange veggie rod recommendations, as I handled it, and it was too wimpy for me. Looking at Powell 766H or or Kistler MGADFPSH78T. I do like full rear grip of the Dobyns 805FLIP/PUNCH, and I've fished some of the newer Dobyns stuff.
  7. Snapped my flipping stick in half, LOL. Bound to happen. Any recommendations? Need something to stand up to my Napoleon Complex hooksets...
  8. Interesting, as these two attributes rarely go hand in hand. have you seen this 1st hand?
  9. I'd like a lifetime supply of free time to go fishing. I'll take care of the rest.
  10. I guess my question would be, why are you standing in a long weigh in line? Just leave the fish in the well until the line shortens.
  11. This is what my club uses, and they are great: http://gatorgrip.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=6
  12. There is a standard for gear ratio. Its called inches per turn, as that would be the measurement you'd use when comparing two reels, not ratio. I love it when someone says, "There should be a rule for this..." in regards to manufacturing. Yeah, that's great, lets let the government dictate design and development of reel technology, LOL. Besides, I VERY HIGHLY doubt most, if anyone, can actually tell the difference of 2" per turn.
  13. I've caught fish on them using a classic free sliding weighted t-rig, keel weighted, threaded onto a football head, and unweighted. I've caught the most going unweighted, and burning them across the surface.
  14. You forgot "adjust thumb" and "adjust cast." I fish Diawa reels, so I generally adjust the spool tension for weight, and adjust the mag brakes for conditions, casting style, or distance. My thumb handles the rest.
  15. The last 20 seconds looks familiar, LOL. Nice video.
  16. I do not recommend using a flick set with a jig in cover. When ripping jigs, at distance through weeds, you want to use a two part swing: reel down, and whack them, bringing your rod at an angle perpendicular to the fish, and then lift the fish from the cover, all the while reeling in as fast as you can. Otherwise you'll lose it in the weeds.EDIT: Oops, I read the OP wrong about cover, but even so, I still recommend crossing their eyes. if they have the jig in their mouth, the hook will penetrate, other wise you run the risk of not hooking the fish at all, and losing it later in the fight.
  17. Forget "where," there are a lot of "where's," the better question is "where, and with whom." ;D Pickwick or Dale Hollow w/ RW. Anywhere w/ Fish Chris. Toledo Bend w/ Catt. My Lake O. spots with Muddy. And not really fishing, but a pile of dirty, broke down reels, a clean bench, with Reel Mech, LOL.
  18. There really aren't any rules about this stuff, only best practices. Some baits are so bulky that they inhibit a good hookset with some jigheads, so watch for that. Other than that, the sky is the limit bro.
  19. The Mega Dog is exactly like what I do to my otters when punching heavy cover - remove the side paddles. Its gonna be a hit.
  20. Unless your thumb is totally useless, then I bet there will never be a need for the heavier shoes
  21. Humminbird 383c Combo. Its great, but I should have gone for the 500 series for more screen real estate. In split map/graph mode, the screen is a little too small.
  22. Its in the FAQ: http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/customer_service0/FAQ.html Scroll down to service and maintenance, 3rd from last question.
  23. Its the other way around, member of the drum family (mostly brackish and saltwater), also known as sheephead, sheepshead, or freshwater drum and closely related to the familiar redfish. I've heard from some of the locals that small (<14") specimens make good eating. They take anything a bass takes, and they get pretty big up here. I'm surprised to hear that the fish above was jumping. In my experience they usually dig deep and try to hod the bottom when hooked.
  24. Ditto that. Guys in my club were amazed at the fact that my year old green and red Power Pro weren't white and pink.I'll give you a little anecdote about KVD L&L. Last winter I asked Rob Faddis if they had any plans to develop a line conditioner for sub freezing conditions. My issue was water freezing in the pores of the mono, making the line stiff, and unmanageable. As the water in absorbed by the mono freezes, it starts to pick up chunks of ice, building up to the point where the terminal rig looked like an icicle with line in the middle, LOL. I told him the only way I could displace the water was to use a silicone based spray, but that quickly wore off. I tried using KVD L&L on that line, but it didn't really help. Rob recommended I start with fresh mono and use a couple of applications before fishing. What a difference! I could tell what the line conditioner was doing because as the water collected on the line, I could see it bead up and roll off, just like what happens with a fresh shot of the silicone spray. The difference is it lasted more than a few casts. On exceptionally cold days, those beads would freeze after a few minutes, but they weren't bound to any frozen water in the line, so a quick rap to the reel knocked most of the frozen droplets from the spool, and plucking the terminal end like a bow string removed the rest. Here's the deal: it basically seems to seal all the imperfections in the line, and leaves a slick, polished surface behind. The stuff quite plainly works, if used right. My leftover silicone spray is now relegated to squeaky door hinges.
  25. Paul, not really a slider head at all, but you can get Bagley shaky jigs in 1/16. It doesn't have the pointed head, but it doesn't really matter since its so small. The hook is plenty strong, and the eye comes out of the head at a similar angle.
