  1. My son is very excited to get started on his third year of fishing, and he just turned 7. His sister (at 3) is already planning on starting next year. Locally, at the rezzy, I do see alot of younger kids, but it's more of a "casual interest". Really is sad.
  2. Now that is a downright awesome post, and one that I think explains plenty about the bias toward fishing and many outdoor/nature activities. I used to get confused looks about mountain biking after I explained that I was riding some of the more technical trails in the NorthEast Corridor. They always assumed mtb'ing was rolling, smooth paths or rails-to-trails systems. Nope, I'd be out in the "woods", maybe see a half-dozen others in a four hour day. Beautiful. But if they have no interest "it's stupid", to paraphrase. Regarding fishing, it was actually some of my co-workers who got me back into it after a long hiatus. Now I've continued the cycle by getting my son and nephew (and some of his friends) fishing.
  3. Hmmm, good question. I have heard rumors of a night fishing GTG at Nockamixon, though I'm not positive. I'll ask around at work.
  4. Well, I didn't get out but once, and didn't get to hit any of the spots named. But I did get to take my five year old to that Big Brown fish-and-pay place on 115. While I won't even mention how I did (because it just was not fair lol) I loved seeing Bubba land his first EIGHT bass, all 10-14", and doing so like he's been doing it for years. I just hope he doesn't expect that every time out. Towmotor.
  5. Haven't been to GL in about 22 years, but I've been looking to give it another go. Haven't heard anything about it one way or the other, though. Towmotor.
  6. Yeah, but you're in Canada. Aren't things metric or something? Just playin'
  7. Decks would NOT be used for casting-just for storage and to have a place to lay out my gear. Width of boat is 32" on the floor, 42" at the top. There is 6" between the top of the benches on the top of the sides. Sides are 15".
  8. Not a problem, Zel. You're sharing some good info that is helping others. No need to apologize for that.
  9. Thanks, Zel. Greatly appreciated. Towmotor
  10. Allow me to clarify..........With the amount of time I spend fishing (with having two jobs and two young kids) I WILL not justify spending more than needed on a boat. I don't need to buy a "nicer" boat just to say I have one. Especially since I'll be going solo most of the time. That being said, I'll be putting a bare minimum into the boat as supplies (ie. plywood) are quite abundant 'round here (wife's brother is a contractor) and I got the boat with TM for $50 off of a co-worker. The "upgrades" are just my way of personalizing the Jon. Just like I did with my truck, my basses (guitars, not fish), my mountain bikes........... So, I will ask again...............Can it be done? Or should I just leave it as it is? Here's your two cents back. Thanks.
  11. Heading up to Blakeslee tomorrow night for the Memorial Day weekend. You know if the Tobyhanna Creek near 115 is worth hitting? Or anywhere else local to 940 and 115? Would love to do a day trip, but I'll be rollin' with the wife and kids. Thanks. Towmotor
  12. I know what you're thinking......"DON'T do it! Will not be anywhere near stable". But I'm not looking to add casting decks. More or less for storage/gear placement. Since the wife's nephew is "Scared of that thing", I'll be using it solo. My thought is to add a hatch over the rear cavity where the battery for the TM will be, a deck on the front with either a storage hatch or an opening for a flip-top cooler and a floor between the two benches. I'll also be adding a folding seat and swivel mount to the rear bench. So, can it (or SHOULD it) be done? Or will the added weight in a smaller boat be a problem? Towmotor.
  13. Welcome to Montco. Where about will you be moving to?
  14. Just picked up a 10' Jonboat today from a co-worker. Seems to be fairly old but in decent shape. Spent a little time pressure washing it and just cleaning it up in general. I plan on painting this boat.............I know about the metal-etching primer, but is there a particular brand of paint I should look for? Also, with something this small is it wise to use brackets/seats? I realize decking it is out of the question, but would like something other than the benches to sit on. Lastly, is it a good idea to mount a smaller (ie 5 hp) motor? I'll mainly be using it on a 9 or less Lake, and the trolling motor may not be enough. I think. Thanks. Towmotor

  16. Haha. After all this time, I bump a thread and it gains new life. Almost two pages in two days. Fishing in PA IS alive and well!
  17. Bumpin' it back to life....... SouthEastern PA (Montgomery County) here. Started fishing in 83 at 10 years old, but haven't thrown a line in 15 years. Used to hit Green Lane, Nockamixon, the Perkiomen, the Sure-Kill River, the Wissahickon etc. With my recent "dual-resident status" (Blakeslee, Monroe County) will be looking forward to Mauch Chunk, the Lehigh, and some other spots around the area. For those of you familiar with some of these spots........What lures/bait do you find to be most effective? Towmotor
  18. Hmmm.....Another musician. Whattaya play?
  19. Maybe I did it wrong, but I wasn't real fond of the search result format. I'll try again, though. Thanks for the advice everyone. Towmotor
  20. I may be in also. Fishing-yes. Camping-Nah. Got a place up there to stay at. If wife and kids aren't with me could probably bunk a few more. Towmotor
  21. At the risk of sounding like a complete boob, could one of the many experts on here explain to me the pro's of a baitcaster, and also the mechanics of casting one. I've never used anything other than a spinning combo ( I also haven't thrown a line in 14 years) but 'casters seem to be the hot thing. I'm even willing to buy a "cheaper" combo to try it out if need be. Thanks in advance. Towmotor
  22. Zel, thanks for the link and the reply. Greatly appreciated. Will surely look it over and get back to you. Thanks again, Towmotor
  23. Well, after reading the link Team_Dougherty posted, I figure it will be easy/cheap enough to just do it the right way regardless of the laws in Canada. The only reason I'd go up there anyway is to catch a Habs game or go to the Hockey HOF. Though I have also heard good things about the strip clubs in Montreal. At any rate, thanks for all the input and advice. Greatly appreciated. BTW, sweet Jon, LBH! Towmotor
  24. Update: Vince (guy with boat) just told me he's had the boat for about twenty years, lost title ten years ago, and that he got it used. Also told me I can have oars, life jackets (probably no good?) some other odds and ends and a trolling motor. He did say that there is a spot where it was epoxied on the bottom that might need to be redone. I'm thinking I'm gonna do it.................. towmotor
