  1. as far as retrieves go in water temps similar to yours, a steady slow to medium retrieve with an occasional brief stoppage, followed by a quick twitch to get it trackin' again works good for me as far as triggering strikes go. you get a different flash on the flutter and a sound change on the the twitch breaking up the monotony of a vanilla retrieve.
  2. how's it goin' out there? listen we've got a trip booked for the 1st. week of june at moose lake near ely,mn. anyone familiar? can i expect pre-spawn,spawn,postspawn or all of the above? any areas or recommended advice would be appreciated. thanx in advance
  3. the bass here in bartlett,il. sure do love those 1\2oz. gold traps on the northwest shores this time of year.
  4. i'll be flying down to attend the superbowl next thursday. our place is in st.pete beach, is there something relatively close and fishable from shore as far as bass fishing goes or am i better off with a saltwater excursion? we simply don't get down that too often and would very much like to try and maximize this rare chance. again thanx in advance for any advice or input.
  5. thanx for the reply . in response to the question, you can easily cast using the pegged method. to put it to the test, slide a bullet sinker on the line ,insert a flat toothpick from the bottom of the sinker towards the top firmly. the toothpick acts as a wedge as the greater the downward force applied the tighter the wedge gets. also the knot isn't necessary as the diameter of the knot is generally smaller than the diameter of the hole at the bottom of the sinker. but the toothpick also takes up space in the hole, so it certainly couldn't hurt.
  6. if you run out of a certain size drop weight 1/8, 1/4. etc. or tend to lose lots of them, you can peg a bullet slip sinker in the normal manner with a tooth pick or rubberband, but at the tag end of course. also skin hooking the bait at the nose end instead of the exposed version cuts way down on snags . low tech but effective.
  7. first things first, the site is absolutely top drawer, hands down. i live just outside of chicago in the nw suburbs. get out fishin' as much as i can. pretty serious about the game, keep up with latest info, techniques, and what not. but i do have a hookset question. i seem to hook alot of fish in the eyeball area when using soft plastics, jigs and the like. generally use more of a horizontal sweepset, but equal results with 3/4 set or overhead. is this a angle game based on the direction the fish is headed,or a mechanics issue? thanx in advance for the help and advice.
