  1. I am a fan of CXX . I use 10lb. on baitcasters and 6 on spinning. I have noticed the coiling ,especially in cold weather, but it kinda straightens itself out as the day goes on. I like fluoro as well for clear water, but I have considered buying the 3000 yrd spools of CXX for most applications.. I was really surprised by the cost savings between the 300 yrd spools of CXX and buying the 3000 yrd spool. Not to mention I wouldn't need to purchase line for quite some time !
  2. Don't trust the weatherman no matter what ! I don't care if they are calling for bluebird skies my raingear is always with me. I learned that lesson many years ago on an early spring fishing trip. Cold and rain makes for a miserable outing even if they are biting. Actually, if the winds blowing and the lake is rough, I will be suited up anyways do to the spray while running the lake. Now sometimes in the heat of the summer a good soaking is refreshing.
  3. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. As already mentioned, if reel is in good shape, it will serve you well for all techniques on the water. If I specifically was interested in crankin big deep divers, a low speed crankin reel might be the best choice. But for an all around, all techniques, you'll be fine.
  4. I agree, and I think if you can catch that loose loop early on the spool, its better to strip the line off the reel by hand. Most of the time, if I see it already on the spool and I try to cast it out, I will be wishing I hadn't . Certain baits cause more line twist and for me its tubes, either pitching them or dragging them.
  5. I guess for me its the spring bite, so strong you can do nothing wrong. Followed by the thought , I should fish for a living. Fast forward to summer when the bite has slowed considerably, and I am scratching for a limit. Glad I have a regular job. I like the highs and lows. Celebrating a well executed plan after a tournament win, or coming up with a bunch of excuses why we didn't catch them . I love it all.

I appreciate the warm welcome and was reminded by FlipnLimits I never said what I liked to catch. I am a bass fisherman targeting both smallmouth and largemouth. I grew up fishing the three rivers of Pittsburgh for smallmouth , primarily on the Monongahela river. I belong to a bass club and have known my fishing partner for over 30 years. I am also fortunate to be able to fish Lake Erie where a 5 lb smallie is pretty common. If there is a prize for longest lurker before a post, I will take one of those " outdated" G Loomis rods in 844 IMX

I think I joined this wonderful site in 2008, it is by far the best ! I always read and never posted and for whatever reason I decided to start . I have been addicted to fishing since the age of 5, and I will be 45 in April. I also love to hunt deer and turkey
