I was there as well during that time frame, you may have seen me and my son fishing. Your description of the fishing is right on. We had some writers, including Mark Davis of Big Water Adventures with us, and Mark pretty much fished deep water points exclusively with big swimbaits and crankbaits. But he has fished the lake MANY times over the years and really understands that deep water fishing. As for my son and I, it was his first trip so we pretty much stayed with the shallow water fishing for numbers. We ended up with several in the 7 pound range, but we had our chance at several bigger fish but it was just not meant to be.
My lodge manager tells me things are starting to pick back up. The postspawn should be turning a little, and all of those bass we saw on the points suspended should be setting back up on the points and humps and ready for a big ol' swimbait to come by!
