About the only technique specific rods I would purchase are A-Rig and Swimbait rods. The requirements for those are so outside the norm that you have to buy them.

I don't like the labeled specific rods. I look at the action and use it for the techniques they fit.

I didn't use a bait caster till I was in my mid 30's. I think back to 1984 when I tried to use my first baitcaster, it backlashed horribly. I didn't pick one up again till 2007.

Buy a really good jig rod now, and save up for a decent frog rod later. Buy it one at a time instead of trying to make one rod do two things.

If it was about need, I'd throw a net. Get as many as you want and have fun with it. Half the fun of bass fishing is getting new gear.

Buy high quality one at a time. It kills the buyer's remorse that you will feel later on down the road.

I buy what I buy because I have no kids and can afford to splurge every once in awhile. That being said I don't begrudge anyone for the gear they buy. We all have economic priorities and people buy what they can afford. Fishing is for the enjoyment not a status contest. Shimano till I die or until someone pays me to fish with something else.
