  1. NHBA?
  2. Do not go near the real dam on the rez. Two guys got hung up on it two years ago, I think. Falling 80 ft. to a watery death is certainly possible. What you are hearing about is ryan's dam, "up" from the Foutainhead launch, and it's the remains of an old hydroelectric dam. You can still see some of it on the shore (and w/ Google maps). It is within range of a TM, but I'd need to know more about the TM, boat , battery, etc.
  3. What you see across from the Pohick launch is Ft. Belvoir and Accotink bay. The largest snakehead I've seen was caught in Pohick last spring, i think soccplayer posted a pic of it here on BR. I've caught mine elsewhere however. Think shallow. Fountainhead is on the Occoquan reservoir and is closed for the season. You could access the rez from Lakeridge marina this time of year (we did in Jan of last year, but call first) , but it's likely frozen. Access the Occoquan river from this ramp, but it too is likely iced in (the ramp), though the river may be ice free due to current.http://www.nvrpa.org/park/occoquan/content/boating_fees There are some big bass in Burke. But they have seen every lure ever made, twice. Patience and time on the water there are key.
  4. ?????? Even at high tide, you'll have trouble finding those sort of depths in Pohick. Also, it's pretty much one big flat. You could try and locate some of the old wrecks w/ the downscan. Start on the shore SE of the boat rental docks. Are you in a kayak? The only significant structure that would be 10+ feet would be near the river proper. To give it a structure/cover workout, try your D.S. at Burke, the Occ. rez or the Occ. river.
  5. Good luck getting anybody to give up spots like you're asking for on a public forum. Even community holes. Spend some time on the river this spring/summer and you won't be able to help but pick up a few good spots using the "bent-rod" pattern.
  6. 1. Lipless cranks (Aruku shad 75 or Clackin rap 8, color does not seem to matter). 2. Roboworm Zipper shakin or straight tail on a shakey head (typically 6", pick your color, as above) . 3. Fat Ika when fishing grass beds (any of the black/blue/green pumpkin colors). Honorable mention: Keitech swing impact FAT, 4.8" or 5.8", has worked very well in my lineup this year as a new addition. Aruku shad (bass + snakehead): Zipper shakin:
  7. It's been closed since Sunday morning.
  8. Be prepared to fish muddy water.
  9. Congrats! I've fished that manhole spot alot in the past but have not been to Mercer this year. Mercer was on my list today but I chose a different local spot. No 6 #er for me though. Again, nice!
  10. http://www.laprbass.com/standings.php Scroll down to the potomac results from this year. These txs launch from Leesylvania, so I bet at least some of these winning bags came from Mattawoman.
  11. We've launched our scanoe w/ TM there a few times. Other than a kayak/float tube/etc., you are shorebound at Huntsman: no ramp that is available. We've always launched near the inlet that runs under Huntsman Blvd.
  12. The GMCO map of the rez is pretty useful. The contour map of Burke is also useful (publically available), but, my advice is to ignore that body of water until the fall/winter/spring when you are not sharing the water w/ 40 other boats (an exaggeration, but not by much) and untold shore anglers. I've been out on the rez with side imaging twice in a friends boat. The most useful thing to us on those days from the SI were images of standing trees (still standing after ~50 years of flooding!) with associated bait fish.
  13. Compare the prices at work w/ the everstart marine deep cycles from Walmart. With that TM you want a Group 27 or 29 IMO. Also be sure your place of work will provide a refund/exchange of your deposit (if that is part of the purchase price) when you return the battery for a replacement (Walmart does: keep the receipt). Look for a Schumacher 12 amp charger such as this: http://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-SC-1200A-SpeedCharge-Charger-Maintainer/dp/B000BQSIWK http://www.walmart.com/ip/Schumacher-SpeedCharge-12-Amp-Battery-Charger/13005744 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Schumacher-12-amp-Battery-Speed-Charger-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ320571757062QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories And as far as TMs go, the digital ones (e.g. MK traxxis 55, the one you guys borrowed for Pohick) outlast the five speed ones by a significant margin IME. It's worth the extra $ to me.
  14. L Braddock is private. Do what you will with that information.
  15. Belle haven and pohick come to mind.
  16. The guys you see that use a plastic soda bottle for a reel.
  17. The best public access is from the ramp at Occoquan Regional Park off of 123/Ox road.
  18. Group 27 or 29 maxx marine deep cycle battery from wal mart. I use a group 27 with a minnkota traxis 55 and have never run short of battery pushing a scanoe around. This particular TM does have the maximizer. I've used a Shumacher 12 amp charger and been happy with it. It was $40 new on the 'bay. I'm reasonably sure it is this model: http://cgi.ebay.com/Schumacher-12-amp-SpeedCharge-Battery-Charger-2-8-12A-/140426094399?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20b20c273f
  19. It is a private lake. You could fish it but you would be trespassing. Not recommended. As to permission, the camp around the lake is the Goshen scout reservation, administered by the National Capital Area Council of the BSA. Start there, or try and get ahold of the Goshen director.
  20. These: http://www.***.com/Keitech_Swing_Impact_FAT/descpage-KSIF.html in bluegill flash or ayu. I've been using the 4.8". Skinny dippers too, in similar colors (bull frog?).
  21. Ummmm.....yeah....that guy above is right, there are no bass in Burke......so, don't fish it. It's a waste of time (wink wink), really, I swear (wink wink).
  22. IME, for wading, it's easier to access that part of the U.P. from the MD side (e.g. off of the Clara Barton Pkwy). It's one long park where the C&O canal use to be and there is access at many of the old locks. Oh, and be careful, a pair of folks just drowned in the UP while wading near Difficult Run.
  23. What Dan said, and, it's questionable whether or not the staff at these parks know how to operate a battery charger. I would not depend on a rental battery to take me outside of convenient rowing range of the ramp.
  24. I'm with New Angler on many of his points regarding hype, etc. IMO, I don't see an application for the RT craw/frog type baits you cannot duplicate w/ baits from competitors (paca craw, horny toad come to mind). On the other hand, I've done well w/ the space monkey in the past, and the rooster caught me a keeper bass (and a snakehead) in a Potomac tx just this Tuesday.
