My local Retention pond
Some might call it a small lake, It is about 14 acres. I call it a pond because it mas made for water retention in a neighborhood and you can't put a boat on it. It holds some pretty nice fish. I have lost 3 or 4 5+ pounders in the last week, but I dont like to talk about them!

My local Retention pond
I have a nice retention pond less then a mile from my house. Weather permitting, I go out for 1 to 2 hours each night. A buddy of mine joins me most of the time. Here are a couple of the fish we have caught in the last week. I must not be smart enough to figure out how to post more then one pic per post, so please excuse my multiple posts. This first one was just over 3 pounds

retying a lure
I am kind of new, and have a question about retying lures. How often sould you do so? With enough hits and bumping on the bottom, the line above the lure gets a little knicked over time, so instead of losing a nice bass I assume most have a set time period for cutting off a foot or so of line and starting over. Is this correct? Two other quick questions. How often do you replace your entire line? Finally, I use a black jig with uncle johnsons pork most of the time. I fish for an hour or 2 each night. I don't really want to buy a new jar every 5 days, so I leave the jig in a cup of water in the garage to keep the pork wet. Would you recommend retying my lure before I start every night, or would the line sitting in the water for 18 hours not really cause the knot to loosen up? Thanks in advance for your help.

How many do you catch on average?
I go out every night for 2 hours and fish a 14 acre retention pond. I am in a summer long contest with a buddy of mine, so I keep track. The last nine days I have averaged 7.2 fish per night. Slowest night was 4, best night was 13. Of course I have learned more about fishing, where to fish, and what to use. So my number count has been reducing, but my weight count has been going up. Of course a 6.5 and a 4.5 pound fish help the weight average. The best news is I have him doubled up on overall weight, so that $100 is as good as mine.

Mounted or Replica
One question that I did not see answered is what would you consider big enough for a mount? My personal largest bass was 6.5 pounds. I am sure many more serious fishermen here can catch a 6.5 pounder in their sleep. So what would be your min size to get a mount made of?

new to fishing for bass take any secrets
I am also a "new again". I used to fish for bass a lot when I was younger, but then moved to south florida and did more saltwater fishing. I now live near Indianapolis and fish a small 14 acre retention pond in my neighborhood. It is also not very deep, and there are no trees or obvious cover. I started with a shad color spinner, and I would catch 8 to 10 small bass each night after work. I go out for an hour or 2 each night. I then moved to a t-rig, and after learning how to feel or see a bite and set the hook, my bass moved up to the 2 pound range. Last week I started trying a black jig with uncle johnson pig. I am not patient enough for the t-rig. I can retereive a little better and faster with the jig and pig. In the last 5 days I have landed a 6.5 pounder, a 4.5 pounder and a number over 3 pounds. I have lost 2 fish over 5 pounds. Once my line broke. It was probably 5 year old line (I know go a head and yell at me know). I got new line and on the first cast hooked a monster. I fought it all the way in and was about 1 or 2 feet from the shore and my knot came untied. I don't know how, but it did. Might have been because I went to 10 pound test and did not get it tight enough before fishing. Anyway I dropped my pole and jumped in after him. Very comical! I touched it, but that woke him up and he swam away. I hope to catch him tonight to get a nice picture, and my jig back.
