  1. The new houses are like phase 12 or so, there are over 800 houses in the "neighborhood". It used to be farm land, so the pond has been there for decades. They doubled the size of it about 10 years ago to the current 14 acres. And that is not a soda can! ;D
  2. For reference, look at the recent post in here (my consolation prize, a 7 pounder). Compare the picture there and with your fish. I would say just under 4 on your first fish, not close to 7 pounds.
  3. So I went out for an hour or so tonight. About 20 minutes into it I got a nice bass, Just under 4 pounds. I have a camera, but am by myself. I look around and see an older lady riding a bike near the lake. I walk up with the fish and say "excuse me ma'am, can you please take a picture". She responds "A picture of what?" I think to myself, "hummm, maybe me and the freaking fish in my hand!!" But I just hold up the fish and I kid you not she actually says "oh did you catch that in this lake?" Bill Envall's response would have been "Nope, I just drive around with a live bass to different lakes to get my picture taken, here's your sign!"
  4. I would say it is 6 to 7 pounds, at least that is the story he should tell for years to come!
  5. Awesome story! Looks like a fun day of fishing.
  6. I would not keep the big ones, just the 1.5 to 2 pounders, they taste better then big ones
  7. I would not eat out of my subdivision retention pond, too many chemicals.
  8. That is an aggressive fish. I am surprised it would hit again that quickly after already having a lure stuck in her mouth
  9. I usually practice catch and release, but I also like to eat fish. I have not done so with bass in a long time. I have a campsite that I go to every weekend, and plan on keeping 1 or 2 tonight. I only shore fish, or fish in a boat without a live well. So the fish I catch will have to go into a cooler with ice. My question is would it be OK to leave the fish on ice until the morning before cleaning it, as it will be late (i.e. dark and after a number of beers) before I stop fishing and would rather not clean the fish in those conditions? Or would the meat taste better if cleaned before I go to bed?
  10. Yeah, I have read all of there post multiple times, a lot of good information there! Mine probably will not come out that good, but they will get many questions from me!
  11. It is a good deal, however it is only 12'. I would not go less then 14'.
  12. That is a pretty perch!
  13. Does anyone have any suggestions of fish clubs in the Indianapolis area? I have looked a little on-line, but have not found much. Thanks for any help or suggestions!
  14. Now that is a nice fish! Must have been a heck of a battle!
  15. Well gas went up over 20 cents here last night. It always does that when I drive home from work and say "I need to get gas in the morning"
  16. so would you use untreated wood and then use a water seal like Tompson's? I would think just untreated would not last very long
  17. When anyone goes fly fishing with me, they always catch a ton of fish. They just stand on the other side of the lake and when I scare all of the fish away from me, they start catching them! Welcome!
  18. At the end of the year, it will be the Packers. If they go 11-5 this year, that will be worse then last year. If the Jet's go 5-11, that will be a better year then they had last year. It will be much harder for the Packers to declare it a successful year then it will be for Brett to make the same claim
  19. the mosquitos would bother me more then the water snakes. Looks like a nice peaceful place to fish.
  20. My winter project is to redo my 14' jon boat. But for the rest of this summer I am going to use her as is. I am going to put a transom mount TM on this week and I am wondering the best way to mount the battery. I do not want to just place it on the floor incase some water comes in. I figured to spend the least amount of money in the long run, I will go ahead and set it up the way it will be for my mod. So would you attach plywood to ribs in the rear to place the battery box on, or would angled aluminum be more sturdy? Thanks
  21. Be smart, get another account that she does not know about, then she will never know. And BTW and ancor will take her to the bottom of the lake and it costs less then diamonds! But of course I am not recommending thisoption, unless the life insurance will cover the cost of a new boat, new rod, new real, new lake house, etc.
  22. with my scientific background, I love number 8
  23. Always think outside of the box when the fish are not hitting. I was fishing with a buddy about a month ago. No hits in 2 hours. Then he says "Hey check out this little snake." It was about 8 inches long swimming on the top of the water. HUMM. I took the weight off my t-rig and started realing the worm across the top of the water. 15 minutes later I had 4 bass. I never would have thought of trying that. You never know what just might work until you try it
