My goal as a newbee for 2009
This is a good plan, and one I followed last year. I used only plastics and jigs last year. I now feel very comfortable using them, so this year I am getting a baitcaster and trying crankbaits. I would 2nd or 3rd the slowing down with worms. Quick story, I thought I WAS going slow. Just this week I was out for an hour and got nothing. About 45 mins in, and old guy came up next to me and caught 3 fish on his first 3 casts. After the first one, I watched him on the next 2 casts. I was burning my worm compaired to what he was doing. I went home frustrated but came back the next day. I took a deep breath and went as slow as I could. Landed a 5 pounder on the 3rd cast!

Trolling motor suggestions needed
I have a campsite on a 50 acre lake that I go to every weekend. I have a 14' flat bottom jon boat that I can use and I want to get a trolling motor for it. I will only be using it on Saturday's and Sunday mornings, and 70% of the time it will just be me in the boat fishing. I don't need a trolling motor to run al day doing laps around the lake. I just need something to get me out on the water and move around from spot to spot while fishing. Listed below are the options I have. What would you suggest I get and why? Minn Kota Endura I could get 30, 40, 50, or 55 pound thrust Minn Kota Traxxis 55 pound thrust Motorguide VariMax 45 thrust

Baitcasting rig for newbie for under $400
I want to try baitcasting this year. I don't want to buy a $50 reel and hate baitcasting due to poor performance. So I will willing to spend up to $400 on a reel and rod, but would prefer to be closer to $300. I fish 2 lakes, one from shore only, the other from a small boat. I fish about 80% worms and jigs, but I want to expand my lure use this year also. So I am looking for a reel that will have good performance, but ease of use that will not make me put it down in frustration after 5 minutes. And a rod that would be a good match for said reel. Please give me you suggestions. Thanks

Largemouth Bass - Nature's Most Perfect Killing Machine

Have you ever known you were going to catch a nice fish on the next cast?
The fishing has been pretty slow on my lake this week. Except for the monsterous 8" bass I got to win part of the *** contest, I had not caught anything else. I even tried for 3 hours between Monday and last night with a worm on a bobber to catch a blue gill to try as bait. Only thing I hooked was a huge snapper turtle! You know it is bad when you can even catch a blue gill!! Anyway I was walking the bank last night, moving from one pipe to the next when I saw a nice disturbance on the surface about 10 feet off shore. As I got closer I saw it was a school of small fish in a tight ball. I KNEW the only fish in this lake that could cause bait fish to act in such a manor were bass. I KNEW all I had to do was cast my worm about 2 feet past them and let the worm fall down and I would catch a nice bass. So I made the cast, let it fall, and 3 seconds later I had a nice 3 pounder on the line! I love it when you KNOW that you are going to get a nice fish on the next cast!

Playing "hookie" with some fatties.
Those are some nice fish! But don't hurt yourself catching them!

Bass Record equals Million Dollars? your thoughts?
I bet if you did catch it with your hands you could write a book and get a movie deal - still making $1M. That would be an interesting story for sure!

Check out my favorite spot (NEW question)
I was able to do almost the same with the lake that my camper is at. Have a 50 acre and a 10 acre lake. No I just need to get out on it more to make the red notes!

Hypothetical: getting back into various boats
Unless you put out the rope ladder each time you stop, then you would probably not be able to reach it once you were in the drink. I would spend the money and put a real ladder on the back. Another option is always have a rope tied to the bow, if worse comes to worse, grab the rope and swim until you can stand up

Buying new boat...
yes, you can get longer loans on new BUT the minute you buy it you are upside down on it. It would be better to get a used boat on a shorter loan, and not be so upside down that you could never sell it

The PERFECT night of fishing
I measured the pole today, that is a 12" crappie, and no, I did not eat it, let her go. I wanted to, but the cooler full of beer was much closer to me then the fillet knife.

The PERFECT night of fishing
I went down to my campsite last night. I could not imagine a better evening! First there was a pot luck dinner. Then one guy brought out his projector and 80" screen and they put on the Bristol Night race on the deck at his campsite. And the best part was I could stand on his dock and fish and watch the race at the same time! Could life be any better then that! Plus I caught some bass and the largest crappie that I had ever caught!

mattlures bluegill: 1 cast, 1 nice fish, 1 big mistake.
I no longer like you Paul. I have been resisting buying this lure, even after seeing all the big fish being caught on it. I can not resist any longer! I just placed my order. The bait monkey strikes again! Now I just hope I am able to get it before next weekend so I can catch a big one on my trip with some buddies. That might get them to buy them also
