Anyone Use 6' Baitcasting Rods
I notice that it seems longer rods are the main stream now. I can remember when I started fishing that a 6' rod was long. I did most of my fishing in high school with a 5'6" pistol grip lightning rod. Do any of you use 6' rods and if so for what lures or baits?

Do I Need A Baitcasting Setup?
No, you don't need a baitcaster, but think of it as a new way to fish. I hate the line twist associated with spinning reels and yes, even with high quality swivels, I still get them. The only lures I use spinning gear for are drop shots, small rooster tails and size 5 or smaller rapalas. Once you get the hang of baitcasting you should try fly fishing. At least you don't have to worry about a birdsnest with the fly rod.

Should I Even Try Fishing...
This is my first summer fishing the pond in my neighborhood which is a little over 3 acres and only about 8 feet in the deepest spot. I was catching good fish up until mid June and now can't get anything other than 3-4" bream to bite. I'm guessing the water temp is in the mid to upper 80's. Is there any reason to fish now (either early morning or late in the day) or just wait till the water and air cool off? Would it stress the fish too much if I did happen across one?

Hello, My Name Is Pond Scum
and I am addicted to bass fishing, really fishing in general. I live on a 3.5 acre pond to feed my addiction, so that's how I got my user name. I've scanned a few forums, checked out some articles, posted a couple of things and even bought something from the flea market. I think I'm going to like it here.

Re-Spool, Empty Completely Or Just The First 60-70 Yards
When you guys re-spool do you empty the spool on the reel or do you take it down to where it has 30-40 yards and then nail knot it and refill from there? I prefer to not empty the spool, but is there a reason I should replace all the line?
