Havent been there but apparently the down stream end of the island is good.

There is a bridge below the dam that crosses the island. I think uou can park on the island from the bridge. Road is called Redbud Trail and can be reached via Lake Austin Blvd from the north or Westlake Trl from the south side of the river.

Game warden told me that the southern tip of red bud island, where the river joins back up, is a great spot for bass. They hold in the lee of the island and can be had year round.

I just put together my first baitcasting setup and am having a bit of trouble. I got a daiwa strikeforce 100 reel on a shimano fx 6' pole. I got pline 12 lb on it. Am suffering from beginners backlash like crazy. Love the feel of the setup though. Having read the article by reel mech, my question is; Is my setup "balanced?" On a side note, was the reel a poor investment (even though it was pretty cheap)?
