K_Dub Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I want to go to ladybird lake soon, but the problem is that i dont know a good spot on the lake to fish from. i do fish from the shore and as you may know, ladybird lake is HUGE. so i was wondering do i just find a nice cove or something like that or just fish out in the open? Hookem Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Walk the Hike and Bike Trails. If the fish ain't biting, the scenery is, well, fantastic. Always had good luck behind the Statesman building and at Red Bud island. Quote
bassmason Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Game warden told me that the southern tip of red bud island, where the river joins back up, is a great spot for bass. They hold in the lee of the island and can be had year round. Quote
K_Dub Posted August 8, 2008 Author Posted August 8, 2008 is there a way that you can get on red bud island by foot or car? because i have no boat Quote
bassmason Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 There is a bridge below the dam that crosses the island. I think uou can park on the island from the bridge. Road is called Redbud Trail and can be reached via Lake Austin Blvd from the north or Westlake Trl from the south side of the river. Quote
K_Dub Posted August 12, 2008 Author Posted August 12, 2008 ok so i went to red bud isle to just look around. and there looks like some pretty good spots. but i know some of you guys fish there, where are the good spots to go, do you go towards the dam or on the other side? let me know. thanks. bassmason Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Havent been there but apparently the down stream end of the island is good. Quote
atx_newbie Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I haven't had any luck at all fishing at Red Bud. I mostly just catch rocks. But on the far eastern end of Town Lake, down by Longhorn Dam seems to be better. The north side has a little parking lot, and you can walk down the trail. There is a little cove that is crossed by a bridge, with good bank access all up the trail. Also try at festival beach, near I-35. Quote
Hookem Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Around Red Bud, go with the flow. There is usually some current going on. Pretend you're river fishing and not impoundment. Also check where Barton Creek enters the lake. Quote
