  9. Cool. I spotted both issues before reading the rest of the thread. Yay me!
  10. I worked FT and went to college FT, and at one point, also interned and freelanced (ya, who needs sleep?). Didn't have much of a social life as a result, and drove a 20 year old car (when it was running). After college, I held 2 jobs for years in order to pay off the bills. My story isn't unique. The sacrifices paid off very well. Definitely worth it.
  11. Well...ain't that a fine howdy do? Glad you caught it!

  13. Garmin VIRB. Excellent camera, small, lightweight, easy to use, and can record 7 hrs of video. You can get a waterproof case for it for underwater footage. Includes digital stabilization and lens distortion correction, all a price less than $300. http://www.garmin.com/virb
  14. It's common with carburated outboards to have performance issues at higher altitudes. Changing props used to be common practice, but has waned since the introduction of fuel injected models in the late '90s. That said, if it can't push the boat more than 10mph at WOT, then something's wrong. Even at 35 horsepower, it should do better than that.
  15. Raise the motor height in 1/4" increments until you eliminate the problem. This will also increase your top-end speed a bit, but more-so because you'll be able to get to the top speed before the chine walk sets in. Note too, you won't need to trim up as much if you need to raise the motor more than an inch or so. The drawback is that it becomes a bit harder to turn, meaning more effort to turn the steering wheel. So don't raise it more than you need to. CAUTION! If you're used to backing the boat in the garage without lowering the motor, double-check to ensure you can still do it. You may need to lower the motor! (Don't ask me how I found that out!)
  16. I used a blue tarp that came with grommet holes, and about a dozen bungee cords. It didn't look pretty, but it worked!
  17. I ALWAYS run Yamaha Ring Free + Stabil Marine Ethanol Treatment with EVERY tank, without fail, regardless of time of year. I started this practice on the advice of my Yamaha mechanic in 2008 after blowing my engine twice. Never had a problem since.
  18. Hi guys - We've already chosen a lake, just firming up the details on location and dates. Announcement will be forthcoming once we have those details.
  19. Note the bow eye is snug up against it, not in front of it.

  21. As the ol saying goes, "The wind is a fisherman's friend". I would add onto that, "at times". I've had many a day where the bite was bad until the wind kicked up, and then it was on like donkey kong! However, it's not always a sure thing. Sometimes it does the opposite. It's like any other weather condition, really. Sometimes a boon or bust, always try it out before cursing it. That said, there are methods and tactics that work better than others in the wind. These articles should help you: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/wind.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/bass_fishing_wind.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/wind_fishing.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/wind_bass.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/wind_fish.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/fishing_in_the_wind.html
  22. I'd fathom a guess you're turning the magnetic cast control on the palm side of the reel. Turn the other knob on the other side of the reel, just under the star drag.
  23. Your problem is that you're going over the roller. That's not how it's supposed to work. The roller is a "bump stop", meaning you winch the eye up to it tight, not over it. This is why you're breaking rollers.
  24. I simply replaced mine with a new one that was rated the same when mine became difficult to use. It made a HUGE difference! Now it's a breeze. And yes, I regularly greased the old one like I was supposed to, but that didn't seem to help.
