  2. About 14 years ago in my state, 2 guys in scuba gear were finally caught after being reported to the police numerous for spearfishing bass. Yes - it's very illegal. They admitted to killing 10 fish around 10lbs each "for fun", but the estimates were much higher. They were fined several thousand dollars and sentenced to jail for 6 months.
  3. Well, I tried to avert this from becoming political, but that attempt failed. Sorry, but now I have to close it.
  4. Yup. With KVD line conditioner, you have to let it soak in and dry overnight the first time you use it, otherwise most of it just washes off. After the initial application, THEN you can "refresh" it with a few squirts and keep fishing.

It seems as though my explanation wasn't enough for a few folks (not directing this at you Keith. I've had a few pointed PMs as well). So in the spirit of fairness, I'm closing my own thread.

All feedback is welcome and greatly appreciated. And I do prefer PM. However, please understand that the mods and I look at things from a conflict perspective. That is, we're always on the lookout for what threads have the potential to blow up into a flame war in a hurry. We look at the content of a thread for this potential, and never the name of the person doing the posting. Editing, closing, or deleting a thread is NEVER a personal vendetta. Ever. Often we seem to shut down threads on a whim or without much merit. But to us, we've seen similar threads explode into angry words and insults, which in turn leads to members leaving. We're able to recognize these issues before they happen. So we stop them before they even begin. When we do, we're often criticized for being too militant, unequal, or we're exercising favoritism or censorship. When we don't, we're criticized for not doing enough. It's a no-win situation sometimes. Honestly though. Please remember that we are not perfect, and each of us has our own way of doing things. If you were to ask all of us our opinions on something you would get five totally different views. But we always respect each other's decisions and we aren't afraid to let each other know how we feel about that decision. That is what has always made our team work so well. Sometimes I wish each member could look over our shoulder for one day and see what we do and the things we have to deal with. Our goal has always been to keep BassResource a place where everyone can feel comfortable. So before you fire off an angry PM to me about a perceived injustice, please consider this, and that we're only trying to keep this place a fun, friendly environment for all to enjoy. Thanks to all the members who make our jobs a little easier. You guys are great. Glenn
  7. Apparently not. Guys - this was posted by Burley to see what kind of a rise he could get. Mission accomplished. Moving on...
  8. Thanks for the positive responses. I really strive hard to make this site as educational as possible. And the great folks at SureLife are just as passionate about educating anglers about taking care of their fish. The video was produced by them, and they were gracious enough to grant permission to post it here on the site. It's a win-win situation for everyone.

Just want to clarify the only reason I started this thread is because I'm tired of the news reporting only when the stock market falls, and neglects to cover the upswings with equal vim and vigor. In no way whatsoever did I, or do I, intend this thread to turn into a discussion about government policies or the economy in general. I'm just sick and tired of seeing all the negative prophecies about an apocalyptic collapse of the world every day on the news. I just wanted to interject some positive news to offset some of the negativity we see every day. Apologies to anyone who feels, or thinks, or interprets my actions as a "double standard" when it comes to the editing or closing of similar threads that discuss the government's involvement with the economy. I suppose with all the negativity these days, assumptions like that are to be expected.
  10. Actually, these were threats to come to Kentucky lake and do physical harm.

Any topic that discusses gov't involvement in business turns political. Happens every time without fail. Seen it too many times to count now. I realize you feel singled out, but trust me, when it comes to hot topics like these, I don't look at who's posting a topic when deciding if any action needs to be taken on a thread.
  12. Hello, Lately, we've had to edit, lock, or delete a few threads - something we do not like to do. This has lead to angry PM's with demands for "an explanation"; even a few threats towards the mods and I. All of these could have been avoided by simply reading the FAQ's and stickies above. I don't appreciate somebody demanding an explanation when it's clearly spelled out in the FAQ's and stickies. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with them. Even if you're an old fart here, as I've recently updated them. They're there for a reason. Thanks in advance!

I deleted it. It was too political. You can pretty much assume any subject that discusses government involvement is subject to being closed or deleted. Please read the sticky about no political or religious posts for further clarification.

Market finished up 179 points today.
  15. Well look what the cat drug in! Welcome back!! Haven't heard from you in a long time. The rest of the country in spawn? Not in my neck of the woods. Been snowing for 4 days straight now. Water temps are in the low to mid 40's. The bass are still in their winter patterns right now (I know - in March!). But if I were you, I'd break out the floating worms right now, and fish them over the weeds near deeper water (remember "deep" is relative). The outside edges of those lily pads would be a good start. Hit those docks too. Tubes have been especially productive for me during the post-spawn.

SMSgt_RTC pretty much nailed it. The bonuses are not going to those responsible for the failure. To be honest, I am NOT defending AIG. I just hate it when the news purposefully creates hysteria and mob-mentality by leaving out key facts.
  17. Wasn't directed at you. The thread was beginning to turn into rant about things people observed, rather than focusing on the tips and techniques in the article that are absolutely paramount to fish survival. I just didn't want this thread to lose focus. I want people to use the information in the article. The more folks do that, the less "bad press" comments we'll see.
  18. Glenn replied to Tin's topic in Everything Else
Not to defend AIG, but to be fair, the bonuses were written in their contracts BEFORE the bailout money was a factor. It's a legally binding contract, so they have to honor it. It's not like they got a windfall and decided to distribute it amongst the execs. The news has a way of sensationalizing things by taking things out of context. :
  19. Well, following the information in the article is "a better way". It's so incredibly easy to critisize others when really what we ought to do is focus on we can do make it "a better way". Following the tips in the article, then teaching others, is "a better way".
  20. Don't mess with Alpster, for he is... ... The Wizard!

Stocks are up 100+ points right now. 5th straight day of gains - the longest stretch of positive gains in 4 months. To be sure, it's premature to talk about a turn in the economy but the stock market is priced as if the economy isn't ever going to turn around. It appears that investors to beginning to re-evaluate their expectations, based on good news Monday from Britain's Barclays PLC, which also disclosed that it has been performing well in 2009. Last week, both Citigroup and Bank of America Corp., reported improving trends for January and February. Each day that goes by without disappointing news can help further strengthen the market's legs. That said, it would be unreasonable to believe the rally will last longer than a few more days. But it just might be a sign that the market has finally hit bottom.
  22. Might want to wait until it stops snowing. Sheesh! :
  23. The folks at SureLife, who have fizzed well over 200 bass over the years, recommend an 18 gauge 1 1/2 inch needle for fizzing through the side. Anything larger than that can get clogged (remember, the smaller the number, the larger the needle).
  24. Here's step-by-step instructions on how to remove hook from a gut-hooked bass: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1128002349/22#22
