  1. thats just beyond crazy. i mean, i can hit a certain spot around a tree or dock 95% of the time. but holy hell!
  2. gettin' stuck is never any fun man. ive done it countless times in rivers lookin for smallies. as for the pics, if you make a photo bucket account (totally free) you can resize there and they give you links to post the pics right in your thread. real easy ;D
  3. my father and i used to take a couple big citronella candles out with us when we catfished in illinois. set one at each end of the boat. that and i would smoke a cigar every now and then. that seems to thin them out as well.
  4. i got familiar with those in VA. my buddy hooked into on on the james. we both thought it was a monster smallie. and then when we got it in we honestly thought it was a snake head at first, since neither one of us had seen either. so, sad to say, we killed it. but we found out later what it was. i wouldnt mind hookin in to one
  5. wow havent seen any that big. i was tryin to snag one today just to get a better look at it. im not used to seeing those lol. hell, tilapia freaked me out when i first saw em. its all new to me down here ;D
  6. i thought that might have been what it was. but to me they are all baitfish lol.
  7. i forgot to mention something interesting i found out about this park i was at today. apparently, there is a thriving population of what appears to be fresh water aquarium sucker fish. ya know, the ones that just sit on the glass and do nothing? these things are everywhere! is this normal for down here? first time ive seen it. i found this picture, and i guess they are plecos. maybe more of you seasoned guys can fill me in on if this is normal or not.
  8. ive been fishin the past three days (had a lot of time of) and so far it hasnt been too hateful. im used to illinois where i could hit any river i came across and knock decent sized smallies off all day long. BUT, im slowly getting the hang of this florida largemouth game. here are a couple from the past 3 days caught these two out of lake tarpon That little bluegill thought he was something else. put up a little tussel on light tackle. and the bait was as big as he was ;Ds and these 3 came out of a local disc golf course/park in clearwater. people told me that no one catches anything there, but i beg to differ. got my PB florida bass there this afternoon 8-) all the pics were taken with my cell phone, some of them are better than others due to the lighting. the lil lady i caught today was probably close to 3 1/2lbs. and then another one at 3 yesterday. ive had some amazing blow ups out of this lake but only managed to land 3 > its ok though. im gonna get um eventually. and so i dont leave out any info i was using gambler frogs in cane toad color and these ribbit frogs my buddy sent me i was fishing in and around the weed mats and along bank cuts. ton of action, just wish i wouldve landed more than i did. :-/
  9. i grew up in urbana so i have my spots i frequent. i was just curious if anyone knew how the fishing has been. with all the rain up there i was wondering if it would be worth takin my gear with me when i go.
  10. youve got my attention.... 8-)
  11. i was out in the rain yesterday. missed a couple hawgs at a local pond. it was light so it was bearable. but today was a little better. atleast i got a couple in.
  12. awsome pic! ive never really taken the time to look at them.
  13. havent been to either. ive been to freedom lake park off of 49th street in P Park, and just yesterday i found Cliff Stevenson park in clearwater off of drew st. that place seems to hold a lot of big bass although my luck hasnt been too good from yesterday and today. ive lost 5 decent sized fish with only 1 landed. but he fought like he was a champ. is the fishing any good at these places?
  14. you say "some" tournament bass will never go back to their original location and stay on the move. i would assume that others are capable of returning back to their "home" area? I find that really interesting. since most people assume fish to be fundamentally simple. its just crazy to think about fish in a manner that would make them seem to think like we do. having a home, but having our usual routes and places to go throughout the day
  15. wondering if anyone has any insight as to how central illinois bass are doin in the lakes and rivers? ill be in decatur for a couple days and spending the rest of my time in champaign/urbana. im excited to hit the ol fishing holes. anyone been out fishing around the area?
  16. i used to live in norfolk near the naval station. i know of several places to go around the area for a quick trip and a TON more that are a little bit of a drive. anywhere from 45 minutes to about 3 hours. If youre military, try going to cheatham annex naval weapons station out in yorktown. exit 243B on 64 west towards richmond. you get off the exit and go straight down the road and it ends at the gate. there are 2 great ponds on base, and one off base that you can fish. and you can rent a john boat and a motor for 14 bucks for 24 hours! awsome place to do some bassin, and some of the biggest bullhead ive seen in my life lol. if you arent military, im sure you can befriend someone local who could take you. if i ever come back in the area ill let you know and ill drag you out there. if you want to know some of the better smallie areas drop me a message and ill let ya in on it. good luck!
  17. Hey! whats goin on everyone? i just joined up on the forums and thought i would say "HI". i just moved to the tampa bay area not too long ago and im slowly learnin where to fish around here. ive been on lake tarpon a couple times with no luck and ive fished a few local parks here in pinellas county with ok results. does anyone have any spots they wouldnt mind sharing? i dont have my boat here, had to leave it in illinois so right now im just beatin the bank.
  18. ive never done much night bassin'. a couple here or there by accident while realing in my chicken liver or dip bait worm while catfishin' lol. but from what im told the louder it is, or the harder it thumps the better. and if its a clear night ive been told to go dark to create a nice silouette. id like to know any info people have on the subject as well.
