  1. The bag limit on peacocks in Florida is 2 per day!! I see three on the stringer. Hope you threw one back. As for eating them, I live down here and would not in a million years eat something out of the South Florida canals or lakes, except for Lake Okeechobee (and there ain't no peacocks there). Having said that, I have heard they are good to eat (which is not surprising, since they are a cichild, like Tilapia. Hope you don't get mercury poisoning.
  2. Peacock bass love the suspending and floating crystal minnows. The problem with using Yo-zuris for peacocks, though, is that (1) the baits are rather expensive and (2) the peacocks, being peacocks, crush them (literally). Kevin
  3. I mostly fish for peacock bass in South Florida, and will almost always flatten barbs. The way these guys crash baits, if you have mean barbs, you are going to have some troubles getting then unhooked..... and I have had more than one of those guys throw the hook back into ME when I am trying to get them off the lure! Yes, I do occasionally lose one who throws the hook during the fight (but that is going to happen anyway with these critters..... they are crazy strong for their size). Kevin

  5. My basic rule for peacocks is this: use the kinds of lures that you would use to catch snook: X-raps, gold spoons, DOA terroreyez, etc. Kevin.
  6. Also, many of your plugs and soft plastics that you might be using for redfish and snook will also work for LMB and peacocks. I have had good luck with both of the latter with the DOA terroreyez (in root beer usually) that we all use down here for reds and snookies.
  7. What he said!! I live in South Florida and use my inshore spin gear for LMB and peacock fishing in small residential lakes. I generally will use a 7ft fast medium with a 3000-series spinning reel. I also use a 7 foot inshore baitcaster (MH action). Honestly, either one will work just as well in an urban canal or residential lake situation for LMB and peacocks. Good luck.
