  1. Clouser minnows....yes, a fly. Orange/brown or olive/cream. Ernie
  2. Are you on foot, a kayak/canoe, motor boat? The Potomac is a big river...smallies in the upper, greenies for many miles starting in DC and then a saltier portion. Do some searching right here (search around some past posts) as there are tons of places (general areas) that have been talked about and discussed.
  3. Do you have a date? Never too early to put on the calendar...they are calling for cold weather in January.... Ernie
  4. Spectacular Well done! Ernie
  5. Join Us for Boat Night - Wednesday June 30 Boat Night has become a Club tradition. This year's event will feature every type of boat used for river smallmouth fishing, from jet boats to pontoons, canoes and kayaks. This is a great opportunity to see a variety of different boats, see how they are outfitted and talk to the owners. This month's event starts at 6:30 and we'll be grilling hamburgers, so come hungry! PRSC meets on the last Wednesday of the month at the Vienna Firestation. Club meetings are open to the public. The Vienna Fire Station is located at 400 Center Street South, just a couple of blocks off Maple Street in the heart of Vienna, VA. Once you arrive at the station, park in the rear, enter through the glass doors on the side of the building and come upstairs.
  6. The next meeting of the Potomac River Smallmouth Club (PRSC) is on Wednesday, May 26th starting at 7:15 PM at the Vienna Fire Station on Center Street in Vienna VA. Our speaker at the May 26 meeting will be super smallmouth guide Dave Shindler of JST Fishin' Guide Service....enough said! This is a meeting not to be missed. Dave has been guiding for 9 years on the Susquehanna River, primarily in the Harrisburg area. His specialty is searching for big fish and teaching his clients how to catch them. He will describe his winning techniques for when and how he uses spinnerbaits, swimbaints, topwater baits and finesse baits. He will also cover the seasonal movements of smallmouth and how he catches fish in the tougher times of summer and winter. Dave really wants to provide PRSC members with the information they seek. He looks forward to an open dialogue and has asked members to please think about and bring questions, which he will do his best to answer. If you are an avid bronzeback fisherman, don't miss this talk! Membership not required to attend! Ernie
  7. Knowing Pikesnogle, I simply offered to get more info if he saw more fish. And of course I am concerned....just like most folks would be. Ernie
  8. The Riverkeepers can't be everywhere which is why the pictures are important. Dead fish of 2-3 days ago would be long gone by now if I went out there today.
  9. Please get some pictures next time and send them to me. I know some guys that study this and they would be interested. Let me know where, how many etc! Thanks! Ernie
  10. Glad to hear it....did many get killed off? My buddy who lives on Sunset Lakes said he saw a few floaters after the cold weather. My brother lives on Monaco and he did not see any floaters. Ernie
  11. Correct....PRFC is the best place to get info. When you get their boat license, they send you a nice chart. Not quite color coordinated but informative. Also, barbless hooks are required during the Closed Season (NOW). http://www.prfc.state.va.us/sports/BLUE_SHEET_2010.pdf 2010 "Sport Fishing in the Tidal PotomacRiver". Ernie
  12. If you are in the Potomac above the 301 bridge, you cannot keep a striper until after May 16. Nice fish just the same.... Ernie
  13. The next meeting of the Potomac River Smallmouth Club (PRSC) is on Wednesday, April 28th starting at 7:15 PM at the Vienna Fire Station on Center Street in Vienna VA. Our speaker at the April 28 meeting will be Jeff Kelbe. An acclaimed former smallmouth guide, long-time member and former president of PRSC, Jeff is now the Shenandoah Riverkeeper. Despite reports this spring of problems on the Shenandoah, Jeff has generally positive news to report on improving conditions on the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. He will also describe the major battles he is winning with poultry litter regulations, cattle grazing, industrial pollution, and sewage treatment plants. Jeff claims he is more optimistic than he has been in 10 years about the progress being made in Virginia environmentally. Jeff has promised to end his talk with some advice on where the big smallmouth are right now and if he were going after a citation this spring, what his technique would be. As always, a group of questionables will stop at the infamous Vienna Inn for a round of chili dogs before the meeting! All are welcome!
  14. That is exactly what I want to do!
  15. I can host.....my new yak needs some rigging and I need some help with it! Water is right out back!

  18. Thanks for all of the info! We fished Sawgrass in late February so we wanted to try another spot but ya never know, we may change our minds! Ernie
  19. When I fished another set of canals in February, we did not catch any Peacocks and a lot of the guys had not either due to the cold. I know they lost some in that freeze. I am hoping that warmer temps will bring some out....I
  20. There are no rapids to worry about on that stretch but that is a loooooong float! Get Penrod's book, Fishing the Upper Potomac. That will tell you everything you need to know about the river. Ernie
  21. A friend of mine and I are renting a jonboat/motor at EHP on Friday. Any advice on what to throw? What do those canal bass like? I realize that the water in the canals is still high but this is the day we have to fish so we are fishing! Thanks in advance. Ernie
