Suspended bass
x2 on the hornet. I like them because I can control the depth by how I hold my rod and how fast I retrieve them.

Jig Trailers-Help!
I usually go with many of the above mentioned trailers but then I tied on a black/blue jig the other day and went with a Yamamoto Kreature in black on a whim. Good thing I did, cuz it worked great.

winter fishing gloves
Here's a recent discussion on that topic. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1255531765/0 Personally, I haven't found a great pair but I haven't been looking very hard either.

Fall / Spring Gloves
I've been wondering the same thing. Only thing I have found is neoprene for being waterproof but it lacks in sensativity. I have thought about getting a tight pair of neoprene (to keep some water out) and clipping off the fingertips (for a better feel) but i have no idea how it will work. Maybe check out a hardware store, they make a bunch of different kinds of work gloves now. Let us know if you find something, I need some too now that our temps are in the 30s and 40s! >

Look at this largemouth...
Did this bass a favor and helped him pass a big ol' crawdad claw. I flicked it on the ground and he thanked me and swam off with a sigh of relief. I've seen prey in a fish's mouth but never at the other end. haha!

Two hook rigging
Recent discussions on drop shotting with 2 hooks have got me thinking. 2 hooks are legal in SD and IA where I fish so I have been coming up with all kinds of combinations of 2-bait rigs to try to increase my chances of a hookup on those days when I can't figure the fish out. I am curious to hear what some favorite 2-bait rigs are out there. Anyone have any favorites?

How to Tell What Species of Forage are in a Lake
I was in the same boat when I started bass fishing. I knew most of the species in my lake: bass, gills, crappies, perch, cats, sunfish, carp, and pike. We don't have shad in this lake but I have many patterns to choose from by just observing over the last year. Craws, frogs, gills, crappies, minnows, perch, baby bass, and worms. So I would also explore shallow areas of your lake to see if you can spot any baitfish and go from there.

Orlando area bass anglers
Planning a fishing trip down there next spring from South Dakota. I've never been that far south. I was wondering how the bass fishing was around Orlando and about when does the spawn start in that area? Thanks!

Sworming Hornet trailers
What's your opinions on what sworming hornet trailers to use? I have been using flukes with mixed results. Prey in my lakes are bluegills, crappies, baby bass so those are the colors I usually go with. Looking for ideas on other plastics to try.

What other species do you catch while fishing for bass?
Caught 2 nice walleyes last night on a sworming hornet.....weird :-? Not one bass either.....which is not so suprising.

Senko under a float?
I have luck on this set up also. A little wind gives it a great action.

Jigs in heavy brushpiles
I fish a lake loaded with HEAVY, THICK brushpiles. I'm talking piles of old xmas trees and the like. And the bigguns hang out in them it seems. Jigs have been working great but I get snagged up alot. I know a somewhat vertical presentation is ideal in this situation but sometimes I am stuck on shore casting out to these piles and losing jigs on the way back in. Any suggestions on changing my technique or a jig that would be better suited for this? I usually use an arky style jig in 1/2-3/8 oz. with a medium heavy rod and heavy braid.

shore anglers who use backpacks
Its a compre, I am not a rod expert at all, but I like it. I think I bought it because it was real cheap when our SW closed down.

shore anglers who use backpacks
My pack is pretty comfortable, its a hunting frame so I'll be removing the rod holders soon and adding my hunting gear. We've packed game out of the prairies here in SD and never had a problem. Like I said, its a little bulky for fishing tho. Not a lot of bass anglers in SD, so I'm sure I get a few funny looks riding my bike around the lake with it on. Then I just show them my fish pics and get the last laugh!!! haha!

shore anglers who use backpacks
Had some requests so heres some pics. As you can see you could double up on the pvc side by side with another piece and a longer zip tie.

shore anglers who use backpacks
I found an old backpack frame (aluminum) at a garage sale. I then used zip ties to fasten a pvc rod holder on each side. I can only carry 2 rods (but you could double up on the pieces of pvc to get 2 on each side.) It works well for places with no overhanging cover to get tangled up in. Then I just strap my backpack to the frame. Works well when I'm riding my bike along paved paths. A little bulky but nice to have my hands free. Message me if you want a picture of it.

Pictures of mounts?
I love the closed mouth replica too. Cuz you know she's had THAT look 99.9% of the time. But YOU were the one who convinced her to open it just ONE time.....and that's all it took! WTG!!!

Pictures of mounts?
WOW. this thread has really opened my eyes. My FIL is a taxidermist and a hunter which means he has lots of mounts in his house. I've always thought they looked pretty cool. Since I've known him I've gotten a few things mounted, both animals and fish. I like looking at them and remembering the hunt/fishing trip (I know....pics do the same thing...I have a bunch of them too). I always told myself I'd only mount a LMB if it was over 8lbs....BIG for my neck of the woods. Now I am going to really consider a replica. I've always thought I had a respect for wildlife, but now if I do catch that big mama I'll take it too the next level by lettin' her swim and skipping the skin mount.

State VS State - Season 2
Put me down for IA too, in addition to SD, thanks.

Craw color
Disclaimer: I am colorblind and new to bass fishing. Its no joke. It makes bass fishing a struggle at times. But I'm a fighter....haha. Anyways....I was fishing my local lake and found this craw claw on the shore. Do you guys think that it turned blue after it dried out or it had some blue when it was still alive? Wondering if I should go out and buy a bunch of blue baits or what. Greens and browns have been working "so-so" this spring. Any advice?

Upper Midwest
Chode, I have a friend in Fairmont but he's not really into bass fishing.....yet. Are there some good LMB lakes that you know of within a decent driving distance of there? thanks....

Upper Midwest
How's everyone doing so far? I know a lot of you just put all the ice fishing stuff away. We (SE SoDak.) had the ice go out about 2 weeks ago and the fishing has been decent. Just wondering how others are doing around this "latitude". Good Luck!
