  1. It does take a little while to get used to the cadence needed to walk the frog, but trimming the legs will help. It helps with the Spro frogs and even says (on the package) to trim the legs for better walking action. Like someone else posted, trim a little at a time, too much kills the bait.
  2. I am an Owner guy through and through---from drop shot to trebles. They have never let me down. The "cutting" point work hooks are great and they never curl up like Gammy's.
  3. I agree with RoadWarrior. There isn't much difference in performance, a quality reel is a quality reel regardless of the shape or line capacity. It all comes down to what feels better to you. The round reels do tend to be a little heavier because the frame is usually metal compared to graphite.
  4. Awesome job . Do you have any problems with getting them to run true?
  5. Triple-Fish makes a good one too, in the medium price range.
  6. Did you carve those too or add the paint job?? Either way great body and paint
  7. Go with the 285XL. I've had mine for 5 years now and love it. Great ride and gets up to 60mph with a 150hp Yamaha VMax and a full load of gear. This is a great boat for the money, you won't be dissappointed. I've heard too many horror stories about NITROs customer service (or lack thereof).
  8. I feel your pain :'( :'(. I could've taken the same picture of mine up here in Syracuse. It never gets easier either, the snow still makes me depressed and I've lived in this crap for a LOOOONNNGGG time!!! Luckily this may be my last, moving to Tennesse next summer. Nothing to do now but get your tackle ready for the spring and wait for the new season of fishing shows to come out in January.
  9. I've had problems with it too. Breaks not only at the knot, but everywhere, not too abrasion resistant. :'( I've tried P-Line Fluoro and Vanish and have had no issues like I did with Vicious.
  10. Primus, for trailors, keep using your Hula Grubs. The skirt from the grub adds more color to the skirt on the jig, and adds more bulk.
  11. I too got suckered into buying the original Dance's Eel, I was young at that time! That one was made from some foam like material. Never caught anything on the old so never tried the new. moloch16, that was the best comment I've ever seen!!! It's not hard to catch bass out of golf course ponds!! ;D
  12. Any soft plastic makers out there? I just got started pouring my own and I see that a lot of people use Lee Pots to melt their plastic. This may be a dumb question, but is that the same model people use to melt lead?? Right now I'm using the ol' Pyrex cup and the microwave, but the plastic doesn't stay melted long enough to pour a lot of baits at once. It's a huge PIA.
  13. Thanks RNGRPOPO---that's some good news !!!! Thanks for the club info too. I can't wait to get down there.
  14. Southernyankee are you in a club down there? I fish the Weekend Series, but I thought I would join a club when I get there, just to get to know the fisheries.
  15. I agree with the boaters above. Unless you bring everything you own, which it sounds like you don't, the boater should have saved some storage space for you. I do what the other guys are saying and have a compartment saved just for the co-angler. I also save room in the cooler too.
  16. I will definately look you up when we get down there. Our tentative moving date is May or June.
  17. Thanks for the info Southernyankee. My wife and I are moving in hopes of finding some work. We are both losing are jobs, as are many, especially in Upstate NY. Plus, we HATE the snow---and I can't stand having my boat in storage for 5 months out of the year!!! No good bands play up here...need I go on! I hear you about the food, we have family down there and we miss the pizza and wings up here. But, my wife makes her own pizza dough and we learned the secret of a good wing sauce!!! How are you liking the Southland?
  18. New to the site. My home lake is Oneida, home of the now beaten up and exploited largemouth fishery (after two years of Elites visiting). Grew up in the Salmon capital of NY (Oswego) but has some how got hooked on bass fishing. Haven't stopped since!! Live for fishing and fishing tourneys. Can't help what is going on with Syracuse University football---looking forward to basketball season!!! :'(
  19. Is Chick really that bad??
  20. You can buy plastisol, coloring and molds pretty cheap at JannsNetcraft. You can make your own molds out of a clay and plaster of paris even cheaper. I just started this myself, the only advice I can give is to make sure you melt the plastic enough, but at the same time make sure you don't burn it or it's ruined. I use a pyrex measuring cup and the microwave to heat mine, but I think a hot plate might work better at keeping it melted consistantly. Give it a try. FYI do it it a well ventilated area!!! :-X
  21. I use that same Sculpy clay---works great. I made four lures out of one small box of clay.
  22. I'm moving to the Chattanooga area next spring. Any advice on how to find 'em on where to start at Chickamauga??
