Id go for the older boat just for the reason gambler just pointed out, you get more horse power and and a bigger boat. Heres a perfect example of that,I was just looking at basstrackers but found an awesome skeeter that was in brand new condition for the same price and got that instead.

I believe that they are very important to finding structure, rockpiles, humps,and underwater cover. as far as worrying about it getting nocked off just zip tye(the metal ziptyes) it to your trolling motor then you dont have to worry about it.
