flyrod:Ya I thought it was kind of a funny ? for right now being its so hot , but thats kind of what got me thinking about the winter. I knew they would bite in the winter. I just dont ever see anyone fish for bass in the winter so I thought I would ask how many of you fish at that time of the year.Another reason I dont usually fish for bass in the winter is because it gets so windy and the speck bite really good on the lake I live on.

Anyone here still fish for bass in the winter ?I never have I allways stopped and fished for specks. Im am thinking about fishing for bass this winter and I just wanted to no if alot of you fish for bass in the winter and have good luck ???

I read on here awhile back about a trolling motor the makes the battery last longer. so you get more trolling time out of your battery.Can someone tell me the name of the trolling motors ?

Today I fished a lake that was by far more clear than any lake I have ever fished.I could see the bottem in 8 foot of water .I was wondering if any of you fish water this clear is it odd for a lake to be this clear?Most lakes I fish are stained and I can only see down 1-2ft.

Iv been catching a lot on a steady reel but sometimes you need to let it sink .When I do this I give the rod a little jerk and let the trap sink a little and then reel .Repeat a few times during a cast.

Marty: The bait I used wasnt real small. I didnt have any problem today, the hooks are sharp sometimes fish just getaway.

Kana: how big do those japanese bass get? Whats the biggest you have caught over there? I went fishing agian today but this time I went early sorta. I didnt get on the lake untill about 8:30.I caught the first fish on the 3rd cast and I caught 7 more all in the 13/4 to 21/2 range untill 10:00. All of a sudden they quit hitting the rattletrap. I fished for a little after that then I saw something floping in the water so I went to see what it was and it was a snakebird somehow it got its bill stuck in a rope tied to a dock.It was floping around in the water so I trolled to the rope and pulled the bird to me and them things pull like a 10lb bass I cut the rope off its bill and it swam away.I only fished about 30min after that when I got to the ramp some people told me they didnt even catch a fish and another only caught 1.

Iv see shows of that to.I wish that they able to live farther north than dade county because im only in central fl.

How big are those minnows you all are talking about? Can someone post a pic. We dont use minnows in fl for bass .I dont think they are the same ones as we have down here because there only about 1in . ???

lummer :Im in central fl I was using a pearl color with a black back.The lake was pretty murky and I was fishing big weed beds in 3 to 5ft of water.

oh and the times I went fishing were 6 to 8:30

Has anyone else been having good luck with lipless rattletraps lately. I went fishing tuesday and caught 16 bass .Alot of them were little but I caught some nice ones the biggest was 31/2.Then I went fishing wednesday in a different lake and I caught 15 but these were much better in size .Alot of fish 2lbs and I caught one 4.2 .The ones that came off right at the boat are the ones I wish I caught .I lost two right at the boat one was in the 5lb range the other I didnt see but Im sure it was just as big. I was using a pretty little lipless rattle trap I should of put bigger hooks on it because the one that are on it are pretty small I think that is why they came off. Any way it was still fun and I had a good time. ;D

Just my opinion a person new to fishing has a much better chance of catching a big bass on live bait .A averge fishermen has a better chance of catching a big bass with live bait .Now if your a pro you might have just as good a chance with artificals as live bait as long as they are fishing for the a big bass.Now that dont mean that someone that has never fished before cant throw a worm out for the first time ever and catch a 15lb bass.I agree your not going to go out and catch a big bass every time with live bait. You might not even catch a fish but if you fish with live bait for the whole year and someone just as good as you used artficals all year your going to catch more bigger bass .This is averge lakes im not talking about a lake that is loaded with 10lbs fish. Remember this is just what I think. I live in fl and I know there are just as many big bass caught on live bait as artificals and people fishing artificals have to out number live bait fishermen at least 10 to 1

Im not going to say that useing live bait is cheating but it is not the same. you have a much better chance at catching a big bass when you use live bait .I would be much more happy to say that I caught a 12 pound bass on artifical bait then I would be to say I used live bait. Its also easyer to catch fish on live bait and it doesnt take much skill that is why you cant use in in tournys.
