Buying A Truck And Trading In.
That's the big question, did the dealer pay off the loan as well giving the buyer a check. This is true, I just read the Ontario law, no cooling off period as we have in the states. Whether he pays down the 50k to the original purchase price or leaves it and pays off the old loan, he is still stuck for 7400 bucks. Lesson learned, read it before you sign it.

Knots
When using the improved clinch knot with braid make 2 final wraps instead of the normal 1, it will not pull through. I've caught hundreds of saltwater fish with this knot, I use if for freshwater as well. For some extra protection put a bead on the tag end with lighter, singeing tools are sold as well.

The $7400 is to pay off the old car. If the check is applied to the new car he still owes on the old one. Auto loans come in both simple interest loans as well as front loaded. Many dealerships write front loaded loans while banks and credit unions are more likely to be simple interest loans. The issue in this case is paying too much for the vehicle.

Using a swivel with braid, improved clinch. Leader to braid, alberto freshwater, bristol saltwater. Leader to jig and jig heads, ordinary clinch. Leader to lures, loopknot.

Do You Catch More From Bank Than Boat?
I totally understood. The big advantage to a boat is I can fish a canal for miles, rather than being limited to 1/2 mile of walking. Right now my best bass are coming from community ponds, they are not big and easily walked, this is the nature of my area. Pond fishing from shore is really my favorite way of fishing, plus I can use lighter tackle, ponds here do not have a lot of vegetation. Saltwater is different. Since many fish follow the bait it can be a waiting game being on shore for the fish to show up, they may stick around for 30 minutes or only 30 seconds. In a boat we can follow the fish, big advantage. I do have to say I enjoy fishing off the beach more than anything, but I do catch less.

Even many of the inshore species I fish for I can do way better by boat. Not unusual for fish to be several hundred yards from shore, too far to cast. Many saltwater fish follow the bait, the fish do not always stay in one place.

It's good they issued a check for $7400 for payoff but did they re write the contract? If the contract is still at $50,900 your friend is still over paying both price and interest. The contract should be for the price of the truck $43,500, the $7400 check just paid off the trade in. It makes little difference to the dealership issuing a check to your friend or issuing it directly to the finance company for pay off. From the explanation it sounds like your friend is still paying $50,900 for a $43,500 truck, unless some details haven't been mentioned. I don't know many corporate attorneys that run right over to place of business to represent a single client. An attorney in general practice probably would have phoned first or sent a letter by courier, not just show up. A real attorney most likely would have had a prepared document on his letterhead, just in case of a problem down the road. An attorney would have presented their business card before anything else. Did they think you were attorney, I'm not so sure about that. Don't know about the law in Canada, but in many states falsely representing oneself as an attorney has consequences, probably not for a 1 time shot like this.

Scale To Weigh Sinkers
I have this one http://www.amazon.com/Black-Digital-Jewelry-Pocket-Scale/dp/B001M5Q3YO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415285530&sr=8-1&keywords=black+box+scale Many sinkers and lures don't weigh exactly what they are labeled.

He should have read it before signing, he does have 3 days to cancel. It does look like the $7400. pay off was rolled into the new loan, should not have been. The dealership should have cut him a personal pay off check or pay the balance off themselves, either way there should be paperwork regarding taking the trade in and the pay off. Can't really say what the mistake is, except maybe a clerical error.

Where To Fish Between Christmas And New Year
My own point of view, on vacation I'd want to catch fish they are not native to the waters I fish at home. I wouldn't take a trip to catch snook as I got them right here, but I would travel for redfish, they are rare in my waters.

What Trumps All?
Where else would people discuss b/c vs spinning? To Paul's point of which I agree, having the right location doesn't mean catching fish, but it may in an hour, later in the day or maybe the next day. Still brings me to timing, being in the right place at the right time.

Favorite Fishing Situation
The visual display of a larger LMB blowing up on top water is IMO as good as it gets, I fish for them this way almost daily, it is fun. I'd rather catch 1 good one this way than 20 others using different techniques and lures. I have not had the pleasure of catching giant trevally and don't really want to at my age, but I've caught thousands of other fish in the jack family like aj, crevalles, permit, etc. For power, brute strength and the fight I've yet to catch anything rivaling them, but there is no visual. For the fight and the visual offshore billfish and inshore tarpon are unforgettable experiences.

Favorite Fishing Situation
Permit and tarpon on fly rod.

Braid Questions
One thing I like about PP is the 150 or 300 yd spools, many other brands the spools are 100 or 125 yds.

Will You Try A Cherrywood Hd?
Yes, but I changed my mind. I have $35 rod that IMO is a piece of junk, 5'6 light rod with a ul reel. I didn't use this combo for maybe 5 years, between the whippyness of the rod and mono line it was unenjoyable. I put some braid on a couple of weeks ago and I'm having fun catching 4- 5# fish on it. In no way does it come remotely close to my other light power rod, the backbone isn't there, I wouldn't use it for peacocks.

What Trumps All?
In my Florida ponds the fish are always there, they have no place to go. It isn't pattern or lure, it's being there when the fish are turned on, IMO that's timing. I also agree 1 pond when may be dead while another 500' away is producing fish, given enough time I will eventually catch fish. I do only use lures that I feel will catch the larger fish, catching but 1 20" + fish in hour or 2 gets my interest a bit more than catching a bunch of 10 inchers.

What Trumps All?
Are there fish in the area, but that doesn't mean they are always receptive. I've had days where I've seen lots of activity off the shoreline and can't buy a bite. Other days the water looked dead and I've had fish jumping on my hook, I just take it as it comes. #1 trump card for me is time, eventually I'm going to score. Yesterday I fished 3 ponds without a strike. The last pond I made a terrible cast and put my top water on the bank, pulled the lure back into some dead looking water and instantly got struck and pulled in a 20" bass on my ul. Dumb luck and time saved the day.

South Florida: What's Working For You Early Fall?
Up here in Delray the canals have been terrible, but I am catching some fish. What I have been doing almost exclusively is using a ul set up with a Storm chug a bug in my ponds. I'm not catching a lot of fish but when I do score most fish are running 18-24", I'm enjoying this better than canal fishing.

Don't Laugh I Have To Ask
Be the last thing to use for mackerel of bluefish, they would last one strike and be toast. Mackerel have lots of sharp teeth closely spaced together, bluefish have jaws like a vise. Bests lure for both fish is a spoon, you may get cut off but a spoon won't be damaged. I'm sure the Might Bite would fair well with snook and tarpon as they inhale just like a bass.

Balancing A Rod And Reel
Whether having a combo balanced as well as it could be may depend on one's style of fishing. I do not fish plastic worms or jigs too often. When I do fish a jig it is not a traditional bass jig with trailer, I'm fishing for peacocks and there is no need for bite detection, not a delicate strike. The majority of my fishing is using moving baits.

Where To Fish Between Christmas And New Year
Before any plans are made I would check out average seasonal weather, not that is a guarantee. I've been to Myrtle Beach in April, mid 40's every morning but nice in the afternoon. Been to Cancun over xmas, hit a bad week and temps weren't much more than 60-65 degrees, same thing happen in Cabo, you just never know about the weather.

State To State Fishing Buddy
I don't see any difference in taking your neighbor fishing or a vacationer as long as both parties are compatible and licensed, whether expenses are shared or not. I don't think this would have any impact on guides.

Don't Laugh I Have To Ask
I don't think I have ever used an artificial lure that didn't catch fish, given time. I'd be happy to use the Might Bite if I received it as a gift, doubt that I would buy it.

Balancing A Rod And Reel
It is personal. Bear in mind the balance is different with or without a lure on, that will even change using a variety of different lures. Does makes a good argument for carrying 10 rods all pre rigged and balanced for the exact lure you plan on using on that set up. Most of my combos feel pretty good with just rod and reel, once I put lures on they do become tip heavy. I'm not overly bothered by the inconstancy in balance.
