  2. i have 1 of those dt4 unfortunatly i didn't get bit on the first cast but it is a super solid lure that usually gets me atleast 1 fish in the boat. to you guys that lost your lure with the fish on the first cast that just plain stinks i would have jumped in the water after my sebile ;D
  3. hey guys, I went fishing the other day and put on my brand new out the box sebile magic swimmer and on the first cast caught a 2lb lmb which got me wondering what lures you have thown and caught something on the very first cast?
  4. man those are some good numbers catt, i am no where near those numbers i definitely need some practice. thanks for the info. I can now practice towards a set goal. If i can attain the numbers you have provided i will consider myself "good" in those categories.
  5. I can still see at night , although not as clearly but can find a target and throw to it. Although i have not yet actually fished at night i have been on the lake and been able to see quite well(especially if there is a full moon), also another sense comes into play,"feel",which is what accuracy is all about the ability to "feel" how hard to throw the object (in this case a lure) to get it to land near or on the intended target. That the reason people practice is to enhace there feel for a certian technique. but i have no one to measure against which is the reason for the original post i had no idea as to how far the average person can cast and still be accurate. p.s. anyone know how to turn off the overtype mode in the reply box?
  6. C'mon Catt, I want to hear the technical answer, too. There is no standard for measuring casting accuracy other than I got bit i understand where you are coming from (any cast that gets bit ,is in itself accurate, by getting bit to begin with)but c'mon now, you can't tell me that finding the bass, casting accurately, and getting bit is not more exciting than casting , missing your mark by a mile and having a bite. Me personally, i have greater satisfaction knowing that i have achieved an amount of success by practicing a technique and having it payoff, rather than casting blindly and hoping for the best.
  7. that's a great idea about how far are you from the target? how far can you stand from the tire and consistantly get it through? BTW i get some strange looks to, as i stand on the deck of my boat trailered in the yard and pitching to a wheel barrel.. ;D
  8. hey , just wanted to see what you would consider "good" as far as casting, pitching etc. For example i can pitch a lure in a 1 sq ft. space from about 10 feet away. I would say i need some practice but i have no idea how far you should be able to do this technique accurately. Also as far as casting i can hit a 4 sq ft are from about 90 ft,,again maybe some practice?? how far can you accurately pitch/cast and would you consider that "good"?
  9. even though it opposite of the original post i have to say i am left handed but use a Rh bait caster.
  10. Wow i read this whole thread and no Landscapers??? I guess i will have to do for this field ...Landscape manager. It is NOT just cutting grass in little ole ladies back yard for $10. ;D We service home builders, large commercial, apartments and high end residential. Worked my up from being the mechanic (the lowest paid employee at the company) to division manager in one of the five divisions of the company. It a great company to work for and they have treated me very well. Usually work 4-10hr days so that leaves alot of time for fishing!!!!
  11. the primer bulb does not collapse and i was thinking the fuel pump may be a problem im just crossing my fingers that it may be simple. Is the fuel pump hard to rebuild? Is it something i would have to take to a shop? Thanks for the help. btw the helm control was pretty simple to take apart, now to find the parts!!
  12. i turn mine off before i move to a different spot, it seems to mess up if i leave it on and not get an accurate reading when i put it back in the water. I do have a lower priced unit which probably doesn't help.
  13. Hey guys, I have a 2000 90 hp mercury 2 stroke that is losing prime and loses power when i get up on plane. i plan on changing the fuel/water seperator filter, fuel line, fuel filter and priming bulb. Does it sound like i am on the right track and is there any other things i should check for?? Also while i have you i have a baystar hydraulic steering system that is leaking at the helm. Can i take this to a regular hydraulic shop to be repaired or does it have to have "special" o-rings and seals?? Any help on these 2 items is greatly appreciated
  14. For me its entertainment pure and simple, i don't think the point of the show is to give any good fishing tips or a new lure presentation and i can't think of a time when he actually tried to give a lesson. Looking at the show in the same way as other fishing shows it pales in comparison but as an entertainment its not so bad. I would compare his show to jackass and Jerry Springer more than i would a true fishing show.
  15. un-friggin-beliveable!!!! its beautiful weather all week while you work and then on the weekend when its time to go fishing what do we get??? constant downpour of rain and snow flurries??? snow really?? its doesn't snow in SC. we will get an probably get 1 inch of accumulation..guess i will have to go buy bread and milk and put the tire chains on!!! lol j/k ;D
  16. People that stop 15 feet back from the white line at a stop light. Seriously, you are stopped just behind the line, and next to you is an empty space because some idiot is 15 feet back. What is up with that? i do this when turning left at a red light. There are plates on the road that when a vehicle stops on it will trigger the left turn arrow so you don't have to wait. I always move up when someone gets behind me though. ;D
  17. Weather reports that change overnite
  18. Thanks the info has been most helpful for me to understand rod power/action between different manufactures. But i do have one more question ( i apoligize if i'm asking a bunch of silly questions but i am new to the sport and i think the more 1 knows about equipment and how its made the better he/she will be able to correctly use it) . How much does feel/looks matter to you when selecting a rod? If you looking to buy a 6'6 mh rod and you used all diawa rods would you buy there rod if it didn't look/feel good to you because it would match the action of your other rods or would you chose to look at a different brand? thanks again for the info ,you guys are a wonderful source for info.
  19. hey guys, had a questions about action in rods from different companies. I used to build golf clubs and and the stiffness in graphite shafts were diffferent from company to company i.e a stiff shaft from one company may be the same stiffness as a regular from a different company there is no set standard for how stiff a regular shaft has to be. Is this the same as fishing rods? is a medium heavy action on a rod from one company the same as another company? is there a set standard for how stiff a rod should be in order to be labled medium, medium heavy etc.??
  20. here is the scdnr fishing report: Lake Murray: Crappie: Fair to very good. Lake Murray crappie fishing has been feast or famine recently, and on some days anglers are wearing the fish out and then the next day no one seems to get a bite. Most anglers are concentrating on the Kempson's Bridge area up the lake and tight-lining in 10 to 12 feet of water. Purple and yellow jigs are the go-to color. Catfish: Fair to good. Captain Chris Simpson reports that the blue cat bite is inconsistent from day to day, and the fish seem to be scattered and moving a lot. Best action is coming for channel and white catfish, which are holding in 10 to 15 feet of water on flats adjacent to the channel. Drifting cut herring is most effective. Striped Bass: Fair. Striper fishing continues to be fair, and in recent tournaments more than half the boats have not been able to weigh a keeper fish in. Fish are spread out across the lake, and although more boats are still fishing in the upper part of the lake, where there are more likely to be birds, fishing down the lake may be just as strong. Most boats are pulling herring, with lots of anglers using planer boards, and the cut bait bite has yet to really materialize. The water is still cold and it has been very windy. Largemouth Bass: Slow. Anglers fishing recent tournaments have had tough time, and just weighing in a fish has usually been enough to at least put you in the middle of the pack. Despite warmer air temperatures bass have stayed deep; try Carolina rigging with green worms or fishing Tennessee shad or shad colored crankbaits
  21. I caught 1 on a chrome rattle trap about 4-5 ft of water that was around the jake knotts bridge area, 2 in a cove across from the lake from dreher island with a storm shad looking crankbait at in about 6-7 ft of water , and 1 up past dreher island by crystle lake on a little jerk bait in about 3 ft of water. I wil fishing this weekend in the crystal lake area and up into the main rivers upon the advice from some friends and local marinas who have alot more experiance on the lake than i. ;D
  22. lake murray is my home waters and right now the bites are few and far between. i have been out the last 3 weekends and have a total of 4 fish. I have heard a few people say to fish near crystal lake area and on up into the main rivers. you can also check sc.dnr.gov for some more tips. Good Luck !!!
  23. thanks for the info guys , i think i would like the aquariums , sounds like something i should do at least once.
